The first seemingly launched with a massive marketing hype train behind it. This sort of just whimpered out. Not surprising, though disappointing.

This is very disappointing indeed. Releasing in the fall might've been a bad idea. The game deserves alot more.

Not to mention, lack of marketing in comparison to the original one.

While that no doubt definitely did not help I think this year has been an unusual one in terms of how competitive it has been. Practically every month has had a big name AAA title (if not more.) drop.

Hmmm, a shame. It all points out to a bomb. Even if I liked the first one much more than this, here's hoping the game eventually creeps out to a million; would be a shame if Bethesda shelves any chance of this franchise going on, even though I'd also love to see new things from Tango Gameworks.

No marketing. No Shinji Mikami, 50% slashed price for black friday a month later just like the first. And that's before getting into whether it's better or worse than the first (fans are split on that).

Would anyone here consider this franchise the new Silent Hill?

In a way, yes. But TEW can be even more chaotic than SH, as in the STEM anything goes. Silent Hill had a formula of misterious foggy town to nightare town and repeated that cycle. Both are good though.

Hopefully it makes ground in the future but judging by how it is out of the gate I'm not sure it will make the impact the developers were hoping for. That's a real shame as I felt TEW2 was better in almost every way from it's predecessor.

Now that's disappointing The Evil Within 2 is a big improvement on the first game.
