The VGChartz sales comparison series of articles are updated monthly and each one focuses on a different sales comparison using our estimated video game hardware figures. The charts include comparisons between the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, as well as with older platforms. There are articles based on our worldwide estimates, as well as the US, Europe, and Japan.

This monthly series compares the aligned worldwide sales of the Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.

The Xbox Series X|S launched in November 2020, while the Xbox One launched in November 2013. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do lineup.

XSX|S Vs. XOne Worldwide:

Gap change in latest month: 356,510 - XOne

Gap change over last 12 months: 5,031,740 - XOne

Total Lead: 8,033,285 - XOne

Xbox Series X|S Total Sales: 33,267,609

Xbox One Total Sales: 41,300,894

June 2025 is the 56th month the Xbox Series X|S has been available for. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the Xbox One when compared to the aligned launch of the Xbox Series X|S by 0.36 million units.

In the last 12 months, the Xbox One has outsold the Xbox Series X|S by 5.03 million units. The Xbox Series X|S is currently behind the Xbox One by 8.03 million units.

The Xbox Series X|S has sold 33.27 million units in 56 months, while the Xbox One sold 41.30 million units. Month 56 for the Xbox Series X|S is June 2025 and for the Xbox One is June 2018.

The Xbox One crossed 45 million in month 62, 50 million in month 71, and 55 million in month 77. The Xbox One has sold 57.96 million units lifetime. The Xbox Series X|S is 24.69 million units behind lifetime Xbox One sales.

There is less and less confidence in XBox as hardware by the day. Too many blows to the brand it such little time, plus all the expenses for the adquisitions means that keeping their titles as exclusives is no longer viable.

Obviously there went something wrong this generation since month 35. The decent start of Xbox Series gives me the impression that the brand damage by Xbox One isn't the real reason why Xbox Series performs worse. Probably Gamepass and no exclusives lead to less interest in buying Xbox hardware...

Why would people support a console when it's clear that MS itself doesn't care about the console player. Gamepasss being more expensive on console is one example.
