The VGChartz sales comparison series of articles are updated monthly and each one focuses on a different sales comparison using our estimated video game hardware figures. The charts include comparisons between the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, as well as with older platforms. There are articles based on our worldwide estimates, as well as the US, Europe, and Japan.
This monthly series compares the combined aligned sales of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S with the combined aligned sales of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S launched in November 2020, while the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One launched in November 2013. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do lineup.

Total Combined PS5 and Xbox Series X|S Sales: 65,460,132
Total Combined PS4 and Xbox One Sales: 66,109,310
In August 2023, the gap grew in favor of the combined sales of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S when compared to the aligned launch of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in the last month by 554,184 units.
In the last 12 months, the PS4 and Xbox One has sold 146,172 units more than the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The PS5 and Xbox Series X|S are currently behind by 649,178 units.
The PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in their first 34 months sold a combined 65.46 million units, while the PS4 and Xbox One have sold a combined 66.11 million units. Month 34 is August 2023 for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, while for the PS4 and Xbox One it is August 2016.
The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One have sold a combined 175.07 million units after 116 months. The PS5 and Xbox Series X|S are 109.61 million units behind lifetime sales of the PS4 and Xbox One.

series x needs to be 399 like xbox one and sales will take off..
I wonder if this generation goes on for a bit longer, will it get close to 200M
It depends really on the XBSX, because PS5 either way will have sales close to PS4's (little more or little less) but XBSX if don't push the nitro button, it will finish even less than the XB1. So it really needs X360 2010-2012 boost in sales, in order to be able to finish at atleast 80M, and with PS5 around 120M, then 200M are possible.
I really can't see 80 mil happening for the Series the way Microsoft have been doing things lately, pushing hardware just doesn't seem to be a big priority for them anymore. Sony have been doing discounts and outselling them 3 to 1 this year and they haven't really had an answer.
I doubt this gen will hit 200M but if it did I imagine it would be at least two thirds PS5.
Yes, that's why I am saying they need to get nitro boost like X360 years from 2010 to 2012 or the boost that Switch got from 2019 onwards, if you will (percentage talking of course)
