Black Friday Sales - Worldwide Hardware Estimates for Nov 20-26 - Sales

The Nintendo Switch was the best-selling console with 1,331,185 units sold for the week ending November 26, 2022, according to VGChartz estimates. The Switch has now sold an estimated 117.27 million units lifetime.
This week also saw the Nintendo Switch outsell the lifetime sales of the PS4. Read the full breakdown here.
The Xbox Series X|S sold 1,084,483 units to bring their lifetime sales to 19.69 million units. The PlayStation 5 sold an estimated 1,054,517 units to bring its lifetime sales to 27.57 million units.
The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X are still facing supply issues, while the Xbox Series S is readily available and saw a discount this week all over the world.
PS5 sales compared to the same week for the PS4 in 2015 are down by nearly 452,000 units, while the Xbox Series X|S compared to the same week for the Xbox One are down by nearly 10,000 units. PS4 sold 1,506,202 units for the week ending November 28, 2015 and Xbox One sales were at 1,094,254 units.
The PlayStation 4 sold an estimated 4,238 units, while the Xbox One sold 134 units.
PlayStation 5 sales compared to the same week a year ago are up by 708,114 (204.4%), while Xbox Series X|S sales are up by 463,432 units (74.6%) and Nintendo Switch sales are down by 127,972 units (-8.8%).
The PlayStation 4 is down 26,021 units (-87.0%) year-over-year and the Xbox One is down 5,826 units (-97.8%).
Looking at sales week-on-week, the Nintendo Switch sales are up by nearly 605,000 units, PlayStation 5 sales are up by nearly 617,000 units, and Xbox Series X|S sales are up by over 691,000 units.
2022 year-to-date, the Nintendo Switch has sold an estimated 15.56 million units, the PlayStation 5 has sold 10.57 million units, and the Xbox Series X|S has sold 8.42 million units.

VGChartz Methodology: Hardware estimates are based on retail sampling and trends in individual countries, which are then extrapolated to represent the wider region. This typically allows us to produce figures that end up being within 10% of the actual totals.
This data is regularly compared against official shipment figures released by the console manufacturers and figures estimated by regional trackers with greater market coverage than ourselves. We then update our own estimates to bring them into line with those figures. This can result in frequent changes often within a short space of time, but we feel it's important to prioritise accuracy over consistency.
Note that our estimates are based on sell-through data (units sold to consumers). In almost all cases the figures released by console manufacturers are based on shipment data (sell-in), where as soon as a device has left the factory and entered the supply chain for delivery it is considered a sale. This is why there is always a difference between the companies’ figures (sell-in) and VGChartz estimates (sell-through), even after we’ve made adjustments. The one exception to that is when a console has been discontinued and the remaining stock has finally sold out – at that point the figures will match.

There are 85 million MORE people living in the US today than when the Gameboy launched. It's like the entire population of Germany was added to the US since then.
Your arguing does't make any sense. If you tell me, the world has changed, today we have more players than before, so yes, i may agree with you. But more people in the world means absolutely nothing.
And I'm not counting the fact of today we have three different options of consoles, and competitors, so even with competitors, Switch has sold all that you can see. At that far point, gb was alone in the market, THERE was no competitor for him until Sega Game Gear comes, which actually was a gba's competitor.
Very impressive sales numbers all-round. The Switch still managed to edge out the competition and I am happy that everyone can sell more overall as stock is not as much of a problem as it was before. Xbox if it’s sales momentum continues could outsell the PS5 in December giving it an advantage entering 2023 (coming from a massive holiday season). This was not super surprising as relatively speaking, I notice that Xbox relies more on the holidays to push sales numbers which can even be traced back to the Xbox 360 days where in 2011 for example, the Xbox 360 outsold the PS3 during the holiday weeks however were trailing it almost always during most weeks. The Xbox One sales are getting very low. Also, is Vgchartz planning to continue tracking the PS4 and Xbox One sales in 2023?
Microsoft ceased One S production as they began Xbox Series production (and ceased One X production even earlier than that), so I'm surprised there are still any Xbox One units still in the channel! Can't be that many left now.
As for the PS4, last we knew they were still manufacturing that.
The PS4 will probably be discontinued next year considering how low sales already are albeit there was a random boost in sales from Japan (not sure why that happened). Should the PS4 continue being tracked into 2023 or is it selling too little?
Good showing all around, but particularly good for Xbox. Stock for Series X is still limited relative to Switch, but their Series S Holiday offers were enough to beat PS5 everywhere except Asia, and enough to beat Switch in the Americas and Oceania.

Xbox is sitting at 8.6 million units sold for the year of 2022, meaning it needs to scrape together 1.4 million units for the final sales week of november plus the month of december to pass the 10 million for the year mark. It will be close but I think it can do it. Would need to average roughly 280,000 per week
If the Series S bundle for $50 off is happening throughout December as well, I think it will pull it off. Last December, Xbox managed over 400k for 2 weeks in December, over 300k on another week, and over 200k on the last week after Christmas, and that was without big Series S discounts and with lower stock than Xbox seems to have this year.

Just looked it up and this is apparently the 2nd biggest Black Friday week ever for Xbox, shy of only 2011's 1.377m. That 1.377m was sold on the back of 2 different Holiday bundles, one with Halo Reach and Fable 3, the other with Kinect and 2 Kinect games, as well as key software releases including Skyrim and CoD MW3 with Xbox marketing deals, and Halo CE Anniversary as an exclusive.
Is that the first time (post-launch, at least) that Xbox Series beat the PS5 in Europe?
Not sure, but it might be.
PS5 seems over tracked in Europe, it lost massively in UK and only sold about the same in Spain. So I wonder where the PS5 actually did sell in Europe. Because only a 50k difference with Xbox seems to be too small.

Everybody has to take in consideration that, in Europe since launch is still impossible to find any PS5 on display or on shelves, not even a dummy console. XBox X/S you can find everywhere, mostly on big retail shops and only a few buy them. You can find a few PS5 online for sale, but the problem is that it's always a bundle, costing you no less than 800 euros. If Sony could release more consoles, they would be all sold out same day. The numbers would be like PS4, if not even better.

Sony said they produced over 6.5 million PS5's for the quarter ending September 2022, while they shipped 3.3 million. Hence the 3.2 million stockpile.

I don’t think so, it would make sense to just sell everything you can as Black Friday is usually the biggest week for gaming in the year.
We won't know the actual ps5 number until sony discloses its financial report. they didn't lower their forecast to 18 million, wouldn't be surprised the ps5 have a great month in December.
That is given. I do expect however a big drop off from Black Friday for the PS5 if it cannot deliver on the demand. I am pretty unsure about the situation so far in December but Xbox does have a decent chance of winning December but then again, the PS5 may be able to deliver the stock. You’re right though, the numbers are not 100% set in stone until the NPD and the official financial reports come out.

Actually, November in general has been becoming more strong and December has become more weak in recent years. In 2018, the PS4 and Xbox One sold more in November than it did in December.

Switch needs to sell 900k on average every remaining week of this year to reach 20M. Looks somehow possible but I guess we will see at least one week below 1M, probably the upcoming week.

I will be interested to see what the 2022 yearly total is for all the consoles in the US. Seems like it was a good black friday week for everyone. 3/4 of the Xbox's and PS5's sales being in the US this week just goes to show how big a deal BF is in the US but not really anywhere else
Well Black Friday only really means something in the US, not the rest of the World.

Yes but "more" from 0. I live in Europe, between 5 different countried, and Black Friday means a week full of discounted stuff before christmas. And I really don't get the "Black Friday Week" concept but still
Black Friday traditionally wasn't anything in Canada, but is becoming a big thing. I own a retail store in Canada, and we did a big Black Friday promo this year (which isn't something that we've done in the past).
As you can see, sales are up across the board WW. So no, it's not only something in the US. This has been a pattern for some time now.
It's discount time, but nobody really knows what "black friday" is, they only see ads for discounts, they don't see the connection wity Thanksgiving, nor know what thanksgiving is
It doesn't really matter if anyone knows what the meaning is. They just know it as a time when items are heavily discounted right before the holiday season and that's really all that matters.
Actually, this week caused the Xbox Series to overtake the PS5 in the US as the second bestselling console of 2022 in the US.
Black Friday is pretty big in Europe too. But Xbox isn’t nearly as popular and PS5 is supply limited.
