The official PlayStation support page has released details on backwards compatibility for PlayStation 4 games running on the PlayStation 5.

The "overwhelming majority" of PlayStation 4 games will be playable on the PlayStation 5. Select PS4 games will get a "Game Boost" running on the PS5, which may make the games run with a higher or smoother frame rate.

While the majority of PS4 games are playable on the PS4, some PS4 functionalities may not be available on the PS5. Some PS4 games "may exhibit errors or unexpected behavior when played on PS5 consoles." A handful of the PS4 games tested on the PS5 did not work and are listed as "Playable on: PS4 only."

Asking for PS3 backwards compatibility would've been a lot to ask for but the entire PS4 library being playable is still excellent :) Killzone Shadow Fall is the 1st boost mode game I'm playing on Sony PS5

PS1 compatibility at least would've been a breeze to do but I guess that's too much to ask a multi-million dollar company. Sigh.

Great, now Sony needs to address how the cross-save files work and we’ll be good

Do yourself a favour and default to assuming there will be no conversions and that you gotta start your games over. If it's the case, then at least you prepared yourself. If you're wrong, then that's great news!

How the heck did I miss that? damn. That is interesting. I went into this gen assuming my Ps4 save data was going to stay on the PS4, while any games transferred to Ps5 were going to have to start over. I was literally using this as an excuse to start Red Dead Redemption over (in 4K, maybe in first person mode)

Can't every game save just be uploaded on the cloud as well? That's how I plan on accessing them.

Yes, but we’ve heard that some games won’t support cross-save files between PS4 and PS5, though I see a pattern. If they state that only backwards compatible games will support the cross-save feature and not all the upgraded PS4 games, I’ll be content

Pug, havent seem the info, but since for PS+ you can save on the cloud for PS4 and download in another perhaps it will allow it for PS5. It wont be the same as you can keep playing the same save back and forth between 4 and 5 I guess (havent seem this info). The process to transfer saves will be the same, but it is true that some games wont allow you to keep playing from a PS4 save.

Will HDR be applied to all PS4 games even the ones that didn`t had it? How will it work?

I was gonna complain about the headline but if the only PS4 games excluded are in that small list then that isn't too bad. I'm not interested in any of them.
