The charts include comparisons between the 7th generation and 8th generation platforms, as well as comparisons within the 8th generation. This monthly series compares the aligned US sales of the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Wii.

PlayStation 4 Vs. Wii US:

Gap change in latest month: 171,089 - PS4

Gap change over last 12 months: 2,498,569 - PS4

Total Lead: 7,160,792

PlayStation 4 Total Sales: 33,982,521

Wii Total Sales: 41,143,313

August 2020 is the 82nd month that the PlayStation 4 has been available for in the US. During the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the PlayStation 4 when compared with the Nintendo Wii during the same timeframe. The PlayStation 4 has caught up to the Wii by 171,089 units and in the last 12 months outsold the Wii by 2.50 million units. The Wii currently leads by 7.16 million units.

Both consoles launched in November in the US. The Wii launched in November 2006, while the PlayStation 4 launched in November 2013. This does mean the holidays for the two consoles do lineup.

The 82nd month for the PlayStation 4 is August 2020, while for the Wii it is August 2013. The PlayStation 4 has sold 33.98 million units, while the Wii sold 41.14 million units during the same timeframe.

The Wii sold units 41.70 million lifetime in the US, therefore the PlayStation 4 needs to sell another 7.72 million units to catch up to the lifetime sales of the Wii.

I don't know if it will outsell the Wii or not but if Sony isn't lying and does keep making ps4s for 3-4 years, then yeah it should be able to make it. But I don't trust Sony.

Welp Sony has stated they'll continue to support the PS4 for an additional 3 to 4 years. 2024-ish once Sony discontinues the PS4 and in which the PS4 has had some substantial price drops during that time, its a huge chance it could outsell the Nintendo Wii. Well in the US at least, as its already outsold the Nintendo's Wii lifetime numbers. I see the Sony PS4 retiring at 122+ million sold once it's all said and done :')
