PlayStation 5 Controller Revealed, Called DualSense - News
by William D'Angelo , posted on 02 July 2020 / 4,796 ViewsSony Interactive Entertainment has released the first look at the new wireless game controller for the PlayStation 5, called the DualSense.
The overall layout of the controller remains the same with the locations for the d-pad, thumbsticks, face buttons, and triggers remaining unchanged. However, the overall design and shape is much more similar to the Xbox One controller than what was seen with the DualShock 4 controller. The touchpad is also returning.
The controller now features Haptic feedback and adaptive triggers on the L2 and R2 triggers. The Share button has been replaced with a Create button. "With Create, we’re once again pioneering new ways for players to create epic gameplay content to share with the world, or just to enjoy for themselves. We’ll have more details on this feature as we get closer to launch," reads the blog post.
The controller features white as the main color, with back as secondary. There is also a blue light that illuminates from the center. This is a change from the traditional single color for previous PlayStation controllers.
There is also a built-in microphone that enables players to chat with friends without a headset. However, Sony recommends the use of a headset for longer periods.
"DualSense marks a radical departure from our previous controller offerings and captures just how strongly we feel about making a generational leap with PS5," said Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO Jim Ryan.
"The new controller, along with the many innovative features in PS5, will be transformative for games – continuing our mission at PlayStation to push the boundaries of play, now and in the future. To the PlayStation community, I truly want to thank you for sharing this exciting journey with us as we head toward PS5’s launch in Holiday 2020. We look forward to sharing more information about PS5, including the console design, in the coming months."

I like everything but the color scheme. Excited to try this out.
Lol. Thats where I differ from you - I LOVE the new colour scheme. It looks cool and is certainly different from anything else out there.
Looks amazing :) If the console has the same "scheme" it may be really cool too.
Honestly I love it. Seems like the color scheme is pretty polarizing - either people hate it or love it like me. At the very least you have to admit it's interesting and different. REALLY makes me wonder how the PS5 console will look now, since the console+controller has always had the same design/colors shared between them in past PlayStation generations.
Features are fine. It was a good controller, no need for a major overhaul. I really don't like the coloring though.
I dont know.... it reminds me of a 3rd party controller in terms of design. That being said, if it feels good in the hands, that matters waaaay more than the look of it.
Looks like an improvement, in that the shape is preferable to me (over the DS4). However, my biggest complaint with DS4 is the mediocre battery life. So, I'd like to know if that has been substantially improved.
"We also took thoughtful consideration into ways to maintain a strong battery life for DualSense’s rechargeable battery, and to lessen the weight of the controller as much as possible as new features were added."
Well the full article did mention that battery life was one of the things they looked at very closely when designing it so I am expecting it to be a significant improvement over the DS4. At the very least the light bar has been reduced drastically in size so I expect that to help quite a bit.
Am I the only one that finds it utterly amazing? Especially the color scheme?
Are those translucent buttons?
You ARE right! That's awesome. I didn't notice either but if you pull up the images from the actual PS Blog post, you can see it clear as day. Those images are massive 6.3MP ones, so you can zoom waaayyyy in. Definitely translucent buttons and that makes it even cooler!
That is fire. I really like it.
D-pad looks squishy instead of clicky. I've never liked squishy D-pads. Otherwise seems pretty standard.
I'm feeling everything about the controller. Especially the color scheme. Not your typical black since the PS2 days. As long as the d pad still feels the same, we're good money.
Feels like it took elements from each of the big three. I like the color scheme, though I wouldn't say no to all black or white. Makes me think the console itself will be more interesting than a minimal black box, in any case.
I love the colors. It makes it feel different from the last gens.
Looks really cool and high quality. The light surface is smaller now, so hopefully that will help those who have suffered from short battery life. Not an issue for me, I always buy an extra controller so that one is always ready to go. The only question for me is the new shape. I've never had anything to complain about before, so hopefully it doesn't feel TOO different from the past Dual Shocks.
I like it. Looks to be an improvement over the DS4 in terms of ergonomics. But I would prefer if the button shapes had their classic colora. The color scheme looks good, but I think a mostly black with white accents (the opposite of what it is now) would looks better.
First thought, it's ugly, lol. Looks like something you would get from a cheap 3rd party vendor on Wish, not impressed.
I prefer the look of DS4, but let me hold it first before making conclusions, anyway I'm certain I'll get used to it at noe time or another.
If that D-pad isn't right, playing fighting games is going to be hard.
I SWEAR to GOD, sony, if that LIGHT cuts down the battery life to LESS THEN 10 HOURS....
the fucking JOYCONS last 20 hours, you have no excuse
If a battery of less than 10 hours bothers you then I fail to see how bringing the Switch into the conversation is anything to brag about.
@Blood_Tears he is talking about controllers here
I wish the dark part, was actually "clear" plastic, so you could see through it, into the components behinde the controller :)
Is it just me or does it have the same shape as the PS5 dev kit turned upside down? Maybe I'm just seeing things but this could be a hint the console is going to resemble the dev kit, maybe even with the same black and white theme.
I wonder if they plan on having the console mimic the controller color style
Looks too bulky
The convenient addition of a microphone to listen to me at home and sell me stuff is brilliant :(
The tensioned shoulder buttons and HD Rumble features look really cool...
I like the white colour, I wonder if the console will be white also?
That D Pad looks like hot trash I'm sorry.
Finally I can see my sweat a bit better on the controller :P
White is less reflective than black...
I throught this was a stetch of the controller due to the lack of colour..
I like the inbuilt Mic, something i wish they all did.
Does Xbox finally have real competition in the controller department???
No idea why they kept the touch pad - that thing was barely used even in first party games. There was nothing wrong with the Select button.
Well if they want the Play Station Five to be backward compatible, they probably need it?
Until Dawn and a few more games used this feature.
And no, it’s not going to be limited BC :)
- For me DS4 have been a 10 for my needs this gen.
Needs more colour/10.
10/10
Looks good however it also looks expensive. Id say 7/10 but if the price is good, it goes up to an 8/10.
