PS4 vs Xbox One vs Wii U Global Lifetime Sales – October 2016 Update - Sales

Welcome to the latest edition of the ‘PS4 vs Xbox One vs Wii U Worldwide’ article. This series compares the monthly and lifetime sales of the 8th generation of home consoles - the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Wii U.

 

Looking at the total sales of the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Wii U in October 2016 shows how the PlayStation 4 has continued to grow its lead over the Xbox One and Wii U, outselling both of them combined for another month. The Xbox One in turn continues to increase its lead over the Wii U.

The PlayStation 4 passed the 45 million mark. The PS4 has sold 45.79 million units lifetime, the Xbox One 23.82 million units, and the Wii U 13.51 million units.

Taking a look at the marketshare, the PlayStation 4 tops the other two platforms combined. The PlayStation 4 has 55 percent market share, the Xbox One sits at 29 percent, and the Wii U 16 percent.

PlayStation 4 Total Sales: 45,789,855

Xbox One Total Sales: 23,821,101

Wii U Total Sales: 13,510,130

 

The PlayStation 4 has outsold both the Xbox One and Wii U every month since it launched in November 2013. The Xbox One outsold the Wii U in October for the 28th straight month. The PS4 outsold the Xbox One by 388,082 units for the month and the Wii U by 1.02 million units. The Xbox One outsold the Wii U by 627,697 units.

When you compare monthly sales to a year ago, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are up. The PlayStation 4 is up 17,428 units, the Xbox One is up 110,592 units, and the Wii U is down 106,815 units.

Taking a look at the marketshare, the PlayStation 4 managed to achieve 59 percent. The Xbox One accounted for 37 percent of the consoles sold, and the Wii U 4 percent.

PlayStation 4 Monthly Sales: 1,086,030

Xbox One Monthly Sales: 697,948

Wii U Monthly Sales: 70,251

The Wii U beat the PS4 and Xbox One to the market by a year. The Wii U launched in November 2012, while the PS4 and Xbox One launched in November 2013.

WII U only 70 k ........ terrible really. Hope Switch can be better though.

PS4 demolished the competition worldwide. Selling more than 1.5 units per Xone sold, while outselling the Wii U 15:1.
