Best Remake or HD Collection of 2013 - Article
by VGChartz Staff , posted on 01 January 2014 / 7,214 ViewsThe last generation brought with it a wave a re-releases and HD Remakes that collected old favorites in fancy new Hi-Definition packages, a trend which has continued on in this new generation. Though these games are not original we still feel they deserve recognition for preserving what was already a great game and making it better. Many of these titles may have been Game of the Year contenders in the year of their original release but for now we feel it's best to honor them with an award that acknowledges their vintage quality.
The Nominees Are:
Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD
Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D
And the Winner is…
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD
A game that was somewhat polarizing upon its initial release has only grown in acclaim in the years since, to the point where The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker can claim the title of a legitimate fan favorite. Exactly ten years after it debuted on the GameCube, Wind Waker made a surprise return to become one of the most exciting titles of the Wii U’s first year on the market.
Wind Waker HD is not a straight port, however. It brings along with it upgrades that are as welcome as they are numerous. First, the already stellar art direction has been enhanced with an extra coating of HD shine. The original GameCube game still holds up well graphically, but the changes made to the Wii U version make it even more astounding to look at. Add on to that support for the Wii U Gamepad, less monotonous sailing segments, and Miiverse support and it becomes clear that Nintendo sought to ensure that the world of Wind Waker was well worth a second visit.
While fans eagerly await the original Legend of Zelda instalment bound for the Wii U, Wind Waker HD serves as the perfect appetite to make your mouth water in anticipation.
