Ninja Theory-Developed Heavenly Sword 2? "Never Say Never"

by Nicholas Taylor, posted on 10 August 2010 / 1,545 Views

Speaking to GamesIndustry in the same interview where he mentioned their luck in surviving, Tameem Antoniades, co-founder and creative director of Ninja Theory, has something to say regarding a Ninja Theory-developed Heavenly Sword 2.

“I’d never say never.” he told them. Don't be celebrating just yet, though, there's more to come.

“But we’ve kind of moved on now. Our focus is on Enslaved, and making that successful. If we build a franchise out of it there’s a lot of potential in the action-adventure space that surprisingly isn’t that common.”

He also said that they had originally aimed to make a Heavenly Sword sequel before Enslaved: Odyssey to the West.

“We did actually want to do a sequel, and we did pursue that – but we’re not a first party studio, we’re a third party studio, and we knew that over the next few years we’ve got to be releasing multi-platform games.”

He goes on to say that “The game Heavenly Sword didn’t sell enough to have a confident sequel, so it would have put ourselves as a development studio in a very precarious situation.”

According to previous comments by the company, Heavenly Sword did not achieve enough sales to break even for the studio. Enslaved: Odyssey to the West will be released for PS3 and Xbox 360 on October 8th.

@ kain, what a failure troll you are!! Just read almcchesney post! Rather than obeying every words that corrupt m$ says, do some research!?! @op, would really love to see HS2. But for now looking forward to playing Enslaved on ps3, the definitive!! :-)

heavenly sword is awesome but unfortunately ps3 didnt have the user base required at the time for it to be profitable, if they got sony to publish it with their marketing power i bet it would be fine now, all theyd have to do is put out a KB ad and it would be golden :P eventually i hope there is a sequel

Every developer says this. its like the catchphrase for "Too early to say"

First heavenly sword was great and I'd like a sequel however it'd be nice if they added more replay value and made the game long.

Heavenly Sword would have sold much better if it were on Xbox 360. It's smart of them to focus on a multiplatform game like Enslaved. I doubt they'll ever sell exclusivity to Sony again and ignore the Xbox 360 fanbase.

well i wouldn't risk a sequel if i were them. i mean they said they didn't break even on last game and they should know of the feedback on the first game in how pissed people were in its game length. I imagine that means a lot less people would buy the sequel, and thus less sales than original, which again as they said didn't break even.

I'd like to see HS2.

It's a pity, and I'm not sure Enslaved will light up the world. Being PS360 should give it profit, and they have PS3 experience so making for the PS3 isn't going to be problematic for them. They just better do the porting job right, whichever way they go for primary development.
