Overview - The Xbox 360 saw sales surge on the release of the 360S in EMEAA, while all other systems saw a small decline. NCAA Football 11 was the top debut at number 1 with combined sales of 412,000 across the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Fire Emblem: Shin Monshou no Nazo Hikari to Kage no Eiyuu (DS) and Dragon Quest Monsters: Battle Road Victory (Wii) also debuted in the top five.

HW Sales Chart

Hardware - The Xbox 360 saw sales nearly double from the previous week to take the top spot. This was on the release of the 360S in EMEAA which saw sales of 198,000. A quick note is that it was on sale for only 2 days, therefore expect similar sales the following week if Microsoft is able to ship enough consoles. In the U.K. the 360S had the biggest launch ever for a revised home console, selling more than the PS2 redesign in 2004, and the PS3 redesign last year. The PlayStation 3 and PSP saw almost no change from the previous week, while the Wii and DS saw small declines.

The DS and PSP continue to track well below sales of one year ago, dropping 207,000 and 60,000 respectively. The Wii is also down compared to last year on a slide of 24,000. The PlayStation 3 continues to stay above sales one year ago, up 31,000. The Xbox 360 has seen sales almost triple, up an impressive 202,000.

HW Last 10 Weeks

The last 10 weeks have been quite interesting with the release of the 360S. Xbox 360 will remain in flux until supply equals demand of the 360S. Wii sales have seen a decline since the 360S was released while PlayStation 3 sales have remained around the same level. This could possibly be an indicator that there is demand for Kinect from casual and non-gamers.

Software – NCAA Football 11 (X360) debuted in first place with sales of 227,000, followed by NCAA Football 11 (PS3) in second place with sales of 185,000. Fire Emblem: Shin Monshou no Nazo Hikari to Kage no Eiyuu (DS) debuted in third with sales of 149,000, Dragon Quest Monsters: Battle Road Victory (Wii) reached the 4th spot on sales of 148,000. The other debut in the top ten was Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu 2010 (PS3) at the 8th position on sales of 120,000. Most of the major new software this week was from the Japanese market.

Other notable debuts are at number 16 Last Ranker (PSP) with sales of 62,000 and Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu 2010 (PSP) at the 23rd spot on sales of 47,000. The other debut in the top 50 is Momotarou Dentetsu Tag Match: Yuujou - Doryoku - Shouri no Maki! (PSP) at number 50 with sales of 18,000.

Rounding out the top 10 at positions five, six, seven, nine and ten were Wii Sports with sales of 124,000, Super Mario Galaxy 2 with sales of 123,000, Crackdown 2 for X360 with sales of 123,000, Wii Party with sales of 117,000, and Wii Sports Resort at 102,000.

SW Sales Graph

The PSP had the biggest gain, up 27% week on week, on the release of a few titles in Japan. The PlayStation 3 and DS are also up, 7% and 3% respectively. The Wii and Xbox 360 had minor drops but nothing significant. Overall software was up week on week. The DS is the only system down compared to one year ago.

I suspect there will be a surge for another 2-3 weeks, but Halo Reach is going to be a wildcard, given that there is now that special edition console that is getting people all hot and bothered.

binary solo (on 24 July 2010)

If some of the 360 upsurge is taken from Wii on the anticipation that Kinect will be a more desirable motion control system for party/social/casual games than Wii (and Move) then 360 has enormous potential. Good to see PS3 demand is untouched. Means PS3 is on track leading in to Move and Holiday line-up. I guess we'll see what Sony does to try to repeat last year. Wii being 13% down on 2009, which was a pretty down year in itself for Wii, demands a response from Nintendo, quite apart from 360's success. But they'll keep their powder dry for a few months yet I think.

Wow so its possible that the 360 will do another 200k next week in others?

Looks like the Xbox is unstoppable and Halo: Reach is going to keep the ball rolling this holiday season.
