Ubisoft Reports Final Figures for April-June 2010 - News

by VGChartz Staff , posted on 22 July 2010 / 2,280 Views

Ubisoft estimated earlier in July that it had earned 160 million Euros in revenue during April-June 2010 on strong sales for major titles like Assassin's Creed 2, Just Dance, Avatar and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction. Today, the company has revised that figure to 161 million Euros and provided a bit of new information. Ubisoft had initially forecast to make only 145 million Euros in the quarter. The 161 million figure is an 81% increase over April-June 2009 revenues at a constant exchange rate, and a 94% increase overall.

Ubisoft had previously disclosed that Splinter Cell: Conviction performed in line with expectations - shipments reached 1.9m units across X360 and PC for the quarter. Just Dance shipments stand at 3.7m units through June 2010 - 800,000 of which were shipped in the June quarter alone. Prince of Persia had a soft launch in the quarter. Today the company added that its marketshare has increased in several key regions. Ubisoft was the fourth largest third party publisher in the USA video game market, with 6.0% market share for January - June 2010. That is an increase from 4.8% in January - June 2009, when Ubisoft was also the fourth largest third party in the USA. Presumably, the company was behind only Activision (Modern Warfare 2 and others), Electronic Arts (various), and Take Two (Red Dead Redemption and others) in the USA for the first half of 2010. In Europe during the first half of 2010, Ubisoft was the second largest third party publisher - with 9.5% marketshare.  During the first half of 2009, Ubisoft was the third largest third party publisher in Europe with 8.0% marketshare. Ubisoft says it was the second largest third party publisher in the UK, France, and Germany during the first half of 2010 with marketshare standing at 11.0%, 9.3%, and 9.2% respectively. During the first half of 2009, Ubisoft had 8.3% marketshare in the UK, 7.7% market share in France, and 9.2% market share in Germany. Each 2009 share was only good for third place.

                 H1  2009         H1 2010     Rank by H1 09 / H1 10

USA           4.8%                 6.0%               4th / 4th

EU            8.0%                  9.5%               3rd / 2nd

UK            8.3%                  11.0%             3rd / 2nd

FR            7.7%                   9.3%               3rd / 2nd

GER        9.2%                   9.2%               3rd / 2nd

Ubisoft's massive British share can likely be attributed to Just Dance, which sold over 940,000 in the UK alone during the first half of 2010, making it the top selling game in the country.
