Unfortunately, Nintendo will suspend all video streaming services on Wii—including the Netflix Channel—after January 31, 2019.

We hope you’ll soon enjoy an even better Netflix experience with additional features on a supported device. Please visit netflix.com/wii for our device list.

The Netflix website states, "Unfortunately, Nintendo will suspend all video streaming services on Wii - including the Netflix Channel - after January 30, 2019."

I didn't even know the Wii had Netflix.

It does, and my dad still uses it in his living room. This is a shame.

People were still using that?

Darc Requiem (on 09 November 2018)

I was thinking the same thing. The Wii is what a 12 dozen years old now and only supports 480p.

I swear they better not shut it down on the Wii U or I'll be pissed.

Darc Requiem (on 09 November 2018)

If the Wii is any indication, you have another 5 to 6 years before it's shut down.

Give it a year or two and they no doubt will.

They're doing this so people buy a Wii U.

You can still play some Wii games online. I was playing Goldeneye 007 online just the other day...

A sad day for people who enjoy streaming 480p video.

“We hope you'll soon enjoy an even better Netflix experience with additional features on a supported device.” Sounds like a hint about Switch.

Spike0503 (on 09 November 2018)

Offtopic but news like these make me wonder how long does PSN for PS3 have left.

Mr Puggsly (on 10 November 2018)

Nintendo's online services seem to shut down faster than others, PS3 and 360 support has to end eventually. However, Wii is one of the last devices I would use Netflix or YouTube simply because its not a HD platform.

Why? Not that it's hard to find things that offer netflix, but who gains by shutting down Netflix on the Wii?

FarleyMcFirefly (on 09 November 2018)

Aww. Guess I have to buy a Roku.

V-r0cK (on 09 November 2018)

Hopefully by doing this they'll bring Netflix to Switch instead then.
