Quite an exaggeration when there are 3 Mario games and 1 Animal Crossing game tah cross the 10 million mark on 3DS.

The official best-selling 3DS list from Nintendo already has Sun/Moon at #3, having sold 14.69 million worldwide as of December 31, 2016. It's right on Mario Kart 7's heels for #2, and that game was released in 2011.

The power of Pokemon Go to be an ad for the real games was greatly underestimated.

I knew Sun/Moon would be the best selling 3DS game in 2016, but it sold way faster than I expected. Also, out of the top 10 there are 5 "catch 'em all" kinda games, six if we count Monster Hunter. Why isn't this genre getting more franchises back into the fray?

Monster Hunter does not count. It is not a, "catch em all" game in the least.
