PS3/Vita Cross-Controller Play Debuts in LittleBigPlanet 2 - News
by Jake Weston , posted on 12 December 2012 / 3,011 ViewsSony announced today the debut of Cross-Controller play between PS3 and PS Vita. And what is the first game to roll out with this feature? None other than Media Molecule's LittleBigPlanet 2 of course!
For those who may be unaware, Cross-Controller play allows you to "use PS Vita as a controller for PlayStation 3, allowing the use of PS Vita-only features, like front and rear touch, in PlayStation 3 games. More importantly, it provides a whole second screen where action can take place."
Of course, given the features described, it seems like Cross-Controller play puts Sony in direct competition with Nintendo's Wii U and its wireless touch-screen gamepad. It will be interesting to see if Wii U-exclusive features for third-party games could make their way to the PS3 versions.
Cross-Controller play will be first available for the "LittleBigPlanet 2: Cross-Controller Pack", which is set to feature Sackboy facing off against Space Pirates with a whole new set of tools and levels.
Expectedly (though somewhat disappointedly, the DLC is only available to PS3 owners who also have a Vita. The LittleBigPlanet 2: Cross-Controller Pack comes to PSN next Tuesday for $4.99.
