Overview
There is one game in the top 20 to be in its final week before launch. The Prototype 2 (PS3) added 7,982 pre-orders in its final week for a grand total of 78,720. The Prototype 2 (X360) added 12,974 pre-orders in its final week for a grand total of 65,742. As a reminder the Pro data is back up, which means that I am taking requests again for games outside the top 20.
The top three games have 200,000 or more pre-orders, the same as last week, and the top ten has 100,000 or more pre-orders, up from nine last week. Two games added 20,000 or more, up from one last week and four added 10,000 or more, up from three last week.
Games in Final Week Before Launch
The Prototype 2 (PS3) added 7,982 pre-orders in its final week for a grand total of 78,720. Expect first week sales in the USA to be in the 100,000 to 125,000 unit range. This is a six to 32 percent increase over the original. Prototype (PS3) sold 94,784 copies at retail in its first week; however there were no pre-order charts when it came out. Expect Prototype 2 (PS3) to sell between 450,000 to 550,000 units by the time it stops selling.

The Prototype 2 (X360) added 12,974 pre-orders in its final week for a grand total of 65,742. Expect first week sales in the USA to be in the 125,000 to 150,000 unit range. This is a 26 to 38 percent decrease over the original. Prototype (X360) sold 201,544 copies at retail in its first week; however there were no pre-order charts when it came out. Expect Prototype 2 (X360) to sell between 500,000 to 600,000 units by the time it stops selling.

Major Performers – Week Ending April 28
The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings (X360) sales are expected to drop to around 45,000 units in its second week. This is a drop of about 60 percent compared to its opening week.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 sales for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions are expected to remain relatively flat at around 35,000 for the Xbox 360 version and 28,000 for the PlayStation 3 version.
Kinect Star Wars (X360) sales are expected to drop even further in its fourth week. Sales should be around 25,000, down from 33,038.
Hardware sales the previous week were up a tiny bit for the PlayStation 3, Wii and Vita, while it was flat for the Xbox 360, and down for the 3DS, DS and PSP. This equated to overall hardware sales down just one percent. Expect hardware sales to be relatively flat compared to the previous week.
Other Hot Games
Diablo III (PC) is at the top spot, as it added 40,924 pre-orders, down from 47,411 last week, for a total of 656,069. The game is four weeks away from launch, May 15 in North America and Europe.
Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier (X360) is at number two, as it added 27,047 pre-orders, down from 17,824 last week, for a total of 302,671. The PlayStation 3 version is at number 11, as it added 3,994 pre-orders, up from 2,971 last, for a total of 97,381. The game is five weeks away from launch, May 22, 2012 in the USA.
Notable mentions: Assassin’s Creed III (X360) added 17,389 pre-orders for a total of 176,163. Assassin’s Creed III (PS3) added 5,979 pre-orders for a total of 112,135. Max Payne 3 (X360) added 8,746 pre-orders for a total of 122,755.
Requests: The Last of Us (PS3) added 897 pre-orders for a total of 14,138. The Last Story (Wii) added 3,137 pre-orders for a total of 16,163. Resistance: Burning Skies (PSV) added 1,193 pre-orders for a total of 7,036.
