Much like I predicted Fable II is just not that great. I said a couple of times on these forums it would only be an 8.5-9.0 [url=http://www.online-flash-game.com/]online games[/url], and I just went to check its scores and I was right. IGN gave it an 8.8 and its Metacritic and Game Rankings scores are only 89 and 89.1 respectively. I think those reviews will keep it down in the long run and it certainly doesn't deserve to beat LBP in sales because LPB has 95s across the board.

from what I've seen and read, both lbp and fable 2 are very well thought out and executed games. Which is "better" depends on who you ask, and which metric you're focused on (broad appeal, sales potential, simulation ability, replayability, etc.).

Trying to use aggregate scores to determine a winner is like saying star wars is better or worse than lord of the rings...

Guys.

Fable 2 and Little Big Planet are two COMPLETELY different games that are nigh on incomparable.

I would argue that Fable 2 is actually the more accessible of the two based on the fact that it is a casualised RPG and LBP is based on online level sharing that is extremely foreign to casuals.

That said, if we make an attempt to put personal opinion aside and use a remotely objective form of measurement, it must be acknowledged that LBP is better.

Not much better, but better all the same. But as I said, they are largely incomparable.

Did the standard deviation and it actually ends up around plus or minus 5. Of course this has a lot of broader applications and would make a lot of games pretty much equal. Therefore NHL 09 is as good as GeoW and other such things. And LBP is pretty much equal to the best games ever since it's at 95 and is therefore indistinguishable to a 100 rated game. I'm starting to like this theory.

I think one way to go about it if you want to math it up would be to look at the standard deviation of the scores, that would then give you an idea of how the scores differ from the average over the entire list and therefore would give you an idea of how close the two games are.

I completely agree. It's ignorant to classify a site as the thing that scored your game, when it's actually people who scored it, and between two games, probably different people. Scores aren't comparable over time anyway. Like IGN giving ES higher than ToV. It's all about the reviewer and timeframe, not quality of the games.

If you want to compare two games, I suggest using a margin for error of 5 points, via an aggregate review site. It's the best we got right now.

As for 5, I just think it's a nice round number. I'm sure it would be at least 3, by any estimation.

I can accept that if you'll agree that pointing to a single site's scores for the game when the two games weren't even reviewed by the same guy is just as pointless as a 5 point difference in Metacritic. Although I question what you think the margin for error is and how you came about this number.

if you take a single review source sure you can count Fable 2 as better than LBP, if you totally ignore any kind of aggregate score and whenever someone mentions metacritic you plug your ears and hum the halo theme. i totally disagree with you, fable II is much better and fun than LBP, I tried the LBP beta and get bored really quickly, maybe because is not the kind of game that I'm looking for. But with fable II i already spend 20 hrs almost straight... By the way on eurogamer.net fable II got 10/10 and LBP just managed to get 9/10...

And as someone pointed out it's up to 90. I still laugh at this thought that you would look at two games and go, well one got 5 points more so it MUST be SO much better. I can just hear it now, "eh, I only buy games that score a 9.5, I can't be bothered with those crappy 9's." Get a grip man. And honestly I don't care what LBP scores... I've seen video of it and read all about it, it STILL doesn't make me want a PS3. It's a glorified platformer with level editing......woo hoo.

@ crumas2 - Yeah I know no one said that, but some people think of that. They don't write about it but they think Ps3's dying because it's losing it's exclusives. I mean sure Microsoft is stealing it's 3rd Party support but that's because microsoft can't or don't want to make new IP's. If you looked at Sony's announcements lately, you'll see that Sony is preparing New IP's for the ps3 and maybe ps4 is there's any. Ps2's Ip's are ending on the Ps3. So yeah, you guys shouldn't say Sony's Dying when it has alot of first Party Support. On an other sheet, for those saying " I'm a fan of RPG's and yet I don't like Fable 2" then please don't say that you are an RPG fan. Cause Fable 2 is just the game any RPG fans would like. Fable 2 got a very nice start. The thing is with LBP, is that it's not a sequel from a great game like Fable, but i do expect it to burst retailers everywhere with it's great sucess at GDC 2007 and E3 2008, it got alot of awards. And with the reviews LBP got, it will even sell more cause some people just look at the reviews to decide whether or not to buy it. The thing that boosted Fable 2 is that Fable got alot of sucess, therefore making fable 2 one of the most anticipated title of the X360. For those who are saying Ps3 are dying, are either dumbasses, noobs or fanboys.

Also, I have no problem with milanez's comments. At least he's given a reason that isn't ignorant. He's actually played the game, it seems. Paul-Warren, on the other hand, has given an ignorant opinion, for several reasons.

He said 85-90% games "aren't that great" which is an ignorant generalization. Many great games, like Uncharted, and Elite Beat Agents fall in that range. What Paul did is called a "generalization." Generalizations are always, always, always, ignorant. Use his numbers to decide your game purchases only...if you're illiterate, and you can't find someone to read for you, and you're also completely ignorant..like Paul.
He's never played Fable 2, yet dubbed it as a "not that great" game. Two generalizations in the same post.
Claimed that slight review variations vastly effect legs of a core game.
Brought up LBP, comparatively, unprovoked.

At Paul_W, wether you think it deserves better sales than LBP or not, doesn't matter. It doesn't even matter what the reviewers think of it. The only thing that matters is what the average Joe who buy RPG's thinks of it. So far its on track to put down some pretty big numbers. I got the first hero, and i'm pretty sure i spent at least 6 hours on the game(not sure how i can check the time,it just says time of my save). I think to enjoy it(like a lot of people seem to), i should restart and just be plain evil. It seems to be a whole lot of more fun then going the pure route.

 Fable 2 is still not going to sell as well as some folks on boards seem to hope.  Also it won't sell that many 360's.  It will only be purchased by those that have been extolling its virtues on forums for so long and primarily to long time 360 supporters many of which probably account for that initial burst.  I predict 2.5-4 million ltd sales at most.

The ad campaign for Fable 2 is a smart one though as it seems to be presenting itself as World of Warcraft.

Fable 2...HUGE...Fable 3 watch starts, and Fable 2 is ripe for DLC. Just ignore the haters who can't deal with a bit of reality...360 isn't going anywhere, and that's really bad news for their pet console. Fable 2 = biggest rpg...end of story! Fable 2 equal GOTY!

fun, that is what this game is, still not everything promised but a heck of a lot closer to it then before. i enjoy the game play changing up quickly, i hope there are downlaodable patches with more content. also the next game is either a prequel where you end up destroying the old empire with the spire, or a continuation with your current character.

@Benga - The game isn't short. It's not like other games where the sidequests are like "work." I've never seen a Fable player who didn't try to do every quest they could find, they are very fun.

The game itself is also fun. The story, and characters aren't perfect, but they are very humorous and enjoyable, along with being very different and charming. Less FFVII, more Paper Mario.

As for the rest of the game, it's just really well designed and beautiful. It's actually quite addicting and it has atmosphere like no other game I've seen. You'll care for your dog like he was a real dog, lol. It's just a really, really great experience.

As for you not liking Fable, I did like Fable pretty well. Fable 2 is much better, yet it maintains a lot of the stuff that fans of Fable 1 loved about the game, and very little of the bad stuff. Overall, at the very least, it's a very detailed game that obviously had a megaton of work and love poured into it. I don't think anyone who ever plays it will "not like it." Even the lowest review admits the base game is great. I'm not trying to sell you on it, but I stand by my comments. Fantastic.

The more complex a game gets, the harder it is to make it good. You can make a simple game good with nothing but a good idea and a small development team. This is a game with the complexity of Zelda, and it's very good. Not only was there a good idea, but there was a huge amount of time, effort, manpower, money, and other good ideas poured into it. IMO, it's a magnificant, and complex game. Those don't come along very often. Before you die, play Fable 2.

It just looks to me like the 1 mil figure is overly optimistic.

Great game with lots to do. I've probably put in 7 or 8 hours so far and I've completed only a handful of main quests. I could easily lose hours earning money and buying property. This game shall keep me going for a long time.

Ace - Considering the legs of WRPGs on the X360, that's doubtful.

Mass Effect opened up with a pretty big total of 385,000 units and is above 2.07 million now....That's above a 5x multiplier.

If Fable 2 does hit 1m opening week, I think we should expect LTD sales at or above 4 million.

Well I am new to the Fable franchise myself, but the things I have read say there is a good story this time, and very short? It takes 10 hours for you to rush through just the main plot, add 10-20 more for playing everything on the side and thats just for one character. You can completely change your character with different choices which will give a fresh 2nd playthrough.

But those 3 you mentioned are just as good as well Im sure :)
