by VGChartz Staff , posted on 11 May 2011 / 16,003 Views

Brink is the newest first-person shooter from Splash Damage, published by Bethesda Softworks. The game has garnered much attention right now and while the PlayStation 3 sales are surely suffering right now with the PlayStation Network outage, Lens of Truth has still provided us with an exclusive head-2-head of Brink on both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

First up are some head-2-head images. PlayStation 3 is on the left, Xbox 360 is on the right.

Which version do you think performs best?

not sure if this is a buy for either console

The developers need to talk to John Carmack to get some pointers on how to program FPS on the Xbox 360. The game looks horrible on both systems, but it looks worse on the XBox 360 due to poor programming. Crysis, Gears 3 and Rage pretty much proves this.

PS3 wins again

Actually, no one wins. It looks like crap on both systems and the gameplay is slow and bad on both systems. No matter which version you pick, the result will be the same. No Buy!!. lol!!
I'm getting RAGE and GEARS 3 instead.

The game looks too horrible on both consoles to see much of a difference, or care about it.

@ Zim

Yeah the textures not loading thing, that did cross my mind the Xbox 360 version can't look THAT bad surely. It reminds me of the Unreal Tournament engine games where quite often you'd see low res textures briefly on loading.

Zim (on 12 May 2011)

Quite a few of those screenshots it looks like they simply haven't waited for the textures to load.

Honestly though I dislike the games art style so much that bad graphics doesn't change anything.

Brink
360: 1120x720
PS3: 1280x720

The graphics are piss poor. The PS3 version being a trash can and the X360 version being a landfill. I'm also surprised the PS3 version even runs better.

And don't get me started on the gameplay.

remind me to make a lense of truth between my 2003 PC and my 2004 PC, I think it's important, you know in 2011

WTF happened to 360 version? texture loading or just really bad textures?

osamanobama (on 11 May 2011)

disclaimer: for anyone who thinks i am complaining about ign not giving xbox version a lower score. i am not. differences like these are way to small to mark off points. same with 99.99% of games (that goes for portal as well, though i do think it should have scored higher for steam integration, but thats beside the point).
i was merely pointing out the hypocrisy in their reviewing standards

richardhutnik (on 11 May 2011)

[Plug in thoughts here that score more points for the console of your choice, and take down the system you don't like]

  • 0
theprof00 (on 11 May 2011)

starting to notice how little these things matter.

  • 0
osamanobama (on 11 May 2011)

@enrageorange
it was a joke.
i was making fun of ign for constantly taking off points on ps3 versions of games, for tiny little differences (most recently Crysis 2), but never taking off points for inferior xbox version of games.
of course i dont think the xbox version deserves a lower score, the differences are too small.
i have said that about many games, ign just has huge double standard, thats what i was pointing out

  • 0
enrageorange (on 11 May 2011)

@osamanobama
so a game deserves a lower score, for being 1 frame per second slowly, and having slightly better textures. You silly little fanboy you.

Slam dunk for the PS3 graphically.

The game looks like it plays like ass though. Too bad =(, I expected a little more

The game looks like crap on both consoles period...I was gonna get this game, but I think I'll pass on it now

ghaleon1980 (on 11 May 2011)

If it wasn't for these websites like lens of truth and digital foundry, would anyone even NOTICE the difference? I don't find much use for these websites because the differences in most games are incredibly subtle.....

By far most ugliest character designs I have ever seen. I can only imagine how the females look.

PS3 version is marginally less rubbish than the XBox 360 version

  • 0
HokageTenshi (on 11 May 2011)

i think the developers becoming lazy to program this game for Xbox360 ver. since it will sell better on it anyway no point making it a better ver... xD

  • 0
osamanobama (on 11 May 2011)

by the way this is a fugly game either way.

  • 0
kasperl (on 11 May 2011)

conclusion: both look ugly and totally lack of details. debunks the press "screenshots" from the gallery link as fakes...

  • 0
osamanobama (on 11 May 2011)

so i i go to ign.com right now, i can expect a .5 point reduction of the xbox version. right? right? (same goes for portal 2)

im not holding my breath

The colors on the 360 are more vibrant. Though the textures on the PS3 version are better. I say the PS3 version wins this one.

  • 0
thismeintiel (on 11 May 2011)

@ mantlepiecek

I hope so, cause those textures look like crap on the 360.

  • 0
Germaximus (on 11 May 2011)

Thats funny, i think the xbox version looks way more crisp and clear in most cases, was kinda disappointed seeing the ps3 be worse.

  • 0
kitler53 (on 11 May 2011)

unfair comparision -- the 360 has the burden of being able to access online...

  • 0
mantlepiecek (on 11 May 2011)

PS3 version looks a lot better its surprising how bad the 360 version looks in comparison.
I heard there's a day 1 patch coming out for the 360 to resolve a lot of issues so it may not be final.

  • 0
786_ali (on 11 May 2011)

PS3 definitely

Why is there some kind of partnership between VGC and Lens of Truth? How did it start?

  • 0
fin_and_jake (on 11 May 2011)

@Euphoria14

Seems like the Xbox is having some kind of mip mapping issue,??

  • 0
Euphoria14 (on 11 May 2011)

What's up with the textures on the 360 at 1:33? So much blur.

  • 0
fin_and_jake (on 11 May 2011)

I'm tinkling the PS3 looks and plays sooo much better.

Great work guys!
