gamrPreview: 20 Most Anticipated PSP Games of 2011 - News
by VGChartz Staff , posted on 04 January 2011 / 13,241 ViewsChristmas has come and gone and now it is time to look forward at the year ahead. The PSP has a lot of momentum coming off a strong 2010 thanks to titles such as Metal Gear, God of War, and Valkyria Chronicles and 2011 seems just as promising. Below is a list of the 20 games most anticipated by the gamrFeed staff. Admittedly the release calendar for the PSP this year is not exactly brimming with titles but we were still able to compose a respectable list of potentially awesome games worth your attention. The list is far from definitive so make sure to tell us which choices you agree or disagree with and which omissions are the most glaring. The games are in alphabetical order. Exclusive games are in bold. Click on a game name to be taken to that game’s page in the gamrReview Game Database.

January 4
Huh, a downloadable title is one of the 20 most anticipated PSP games of the year? Yup, Angry Birds has already cemented itself as a must have title on the IOS platforms and seeks to do the same on Sony’s portable. The games should be available after today's PlayStation Store update.

TBA 2011
This 2D powerhouse fighting game returns for another round on the PSP. Continuum Shift 2 features new characters from the latest arcade release along with an expanded “Legion Mode” and the new “Abyss Mode”.
Dissidia 012: Duodecim Final Fantasy

TBA 2011
Dissidia Final Fantasy worked well as a fighting game/RPG hybrid and that combination continues in this prequel. Favorites Tifa and Lightning join the fray this time around along with others including the loathed Vaan. The game adds an “RPG Mode” which replaces the direct control of the “Action Mode” with the ability to selecting commands.
Final Fantasy IV Complete Collection

TBA 2011
Because you can never have too much Final Fantasy IV, Square is bringing the game to the PSP. This edition of Final Fantasy IV combines an update of the original classic and its sequel The After Years in one package. Exclusive to this package is a story that connects the two adventures.

March 8
God Eater Burst is a multiplayer Action RPG in the tradition of Monster Hunter. The original never made it over to the west but this enhanced edition boasts more than double the amount of missions along with a new “Burst Mode” to power up attacks. This quest features a ton of customization options so you can hunt large scaled beasts in style.
The Legend of Heroes Trails in the Sky

March 29
This is the sixth entry in this long running Falcom franchise. In this game, you follow a party of warriors called Blazers as they defeat monsters and criminals on an epic quest in the Rebel Kingdom.
Legends of War: Patton's Campaign

January 4
The only game on the list your history teacher would approve of, Legends of War: Patton’s Campaign is a strategy game that allows gamers to relive the thrilling battles of General Patton. Take command of the Third U.S. Army from the beaches of Normandy, to the capital of the Third Reich, Berlin.

May 1
Disney’s mega blockbuster Pirates franchise is next on deck to receive the LEGO treatment. The title will have levels based on The Curse of the Black Pearl, Dead Man’s Chest, At World’s End, and even a few scenes from the new film On Stranger Tides which it release alongside. Jack Sparrow’s swashbuckling swagger will be accompanied by 70 playable characters for block bursting adventure on the high seas.
LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars

Fall 2011
LEGO Star Wars returns despite exhausting the theatrical films for source material. The popular Cartoon Network TV program now provides the backdrop for the lego-fied light saber action and platforming. Developer Traveler’s Tales promises an expanded level editor, a new graphics engine, and new squad based gameplay.

January 25
For those keeping score Lord of Arcana is the second of three multiplayer Action RPGs on this list. This time from Square Enix, Lord of Arcana has a more adult look to it with copious amounts of blood and gore onscreen. In true SE fashion you can pull off flashy spells and combos in combat this time with up to three friends.

March 8
Visual Concepts' perennial Baseball sim returns to the PSP for the 2011 season. Take-Two's contract expires in 2012, so this could be the last year for the classic baseball game, this year featuring Phillies pitcher Roy Halladay on the cover.

March 8
Sony’s acclaimed Baseball franchise returns to the PSP offering the same core gameplay features that make the console version so great. The signature Road to the Show mode offers new Create a Player option and a host of other improvements.

TBA 2011
Monster Hunter Freedom 3 has already proven to be a beast on the Japanese sales chart. The series profile in the west has grown steadily and for good reason. This game reciprocates the Monster Hunter/Metal Gear crossover initiated by Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker with costumes to make you and Felyne partner dress as Snake of The Boss. It also promises new monsters to hunt (duh), areas to explore, and improved co-op play.

TBA 2011
This edition is a port of the original XBLA title and not the recently released DX version. Nevertheless it promises to be every bit as slick and addicting as Pac Man’s most triumphant modern release to date.

March 9
Pata-Pata-Pata-Pon! Fans eagerly awaiting the third entry in the hit strategy/rhythm/action game about one-eyed creatures have likely been chanting in anticipation. This new entry should be the most feature rich of the series yet with the ability to create your own hero, new skills, and enemies. Also available is 4 player co-op and 4 vs. 4 multiplayer matches including online play.
Prinny 2 Dawn of Operation Panties, Dood

January 11
The brutally difficult original Prinny platformer was a hit with critics when it debuted in 2009. This sequel promises more hack-and-slash side-scrolling insanity from the demonic penguin-like creatures. The biggest news is the “Baby” difficulty setting which should make the game playable for mortal men at last.
Tactics Ogre Let Us Cling Together

February 8
The original Tactics Ogre released over 15 years ago. This PSP edition, helmed by the original developers, is not a simple port but an ambitious remake of the SRPG classic. Presentation wise the game boasts 15 new tracks along with upgraded graphics and 3D maps. There will also be new characters, storyline elements, and the ability to pit 12 party members against up to 18 enemies, a significant upgrade from the original’s 10 vs. 10.

March 31
The long awaited return of the Parasite Eve franchise is finally here. Join Aya as she battles a vicious race of mutants that descend upon Manhattan called the Twisted. This third-person shooter is more action heavy than its survival horror style predecessors with gun blasting action aplenty. The new Overdrive system allows Aya to take over the body of a squad member including their weapons and stats which could potentially lead to strategic encounters.

TBA 2011
Get ready for a more arcade-style wrestling Beat Em Up featuring an extensive roster of WWE greats past and present. This franchise in the making promises to be accessible than the simulation based Smackdown vs. Raw with its own unique art direction.

February 15
Ys is a series that certainly gets around. This bundling of the first two games is based off the 2001 PC version. Falcom promises updated visuals and new music to accompany the arrival of these classics on Sony’s portable machine.

Ok ppl calm the F down. Valkyria Chronicles release date for US/EU has not been announced officialy yet, so its not guaranteed that it will be in 2011 (although common sense + sales numbers in Japan would definitely hint 2011). Besides, the PSP2/NGP has already been announced and developers are putting their time on the games for it. All this list makes sense to me.
Nothing of interest here.....And Sony wonders why only Japanese buy the PSP(not many). If they want more of the market in the rest of the world they need to get some better non-JRPG's to the handheld.
Looks like JRPG paradise is on PSP
I am perplexed by the lack of VC3. Also, T3B is the worst slap in the face to a franchise since Highlander 2. I am not even CLOSE to engaging in hyperbole here
Looking foward to Tactis Ogre, will be incredible!!
So there is a basically nothing coming.... the only PSP game I care about is Agito XIII, but that might be becoming vapourware
Tales of the Last Promise <--- certainly the best looking game coming out on PSP

Holding out hope Final Fantasy Agito XIII gets some kind of ANYTHING this year.
Where is Valkyria Chronicles 3???
No VC3? Really? Compared to some of the crap on that list?
3rd birthday FTW!
I'm quite surprised VC3 isn't on there.
Your PSP GoTY is Valkyria Chronicles II. Why the hell isn't Valkyria Chronicles III on this list?
I will be buying 8 games on this list. The PSP still has some life left in it.
I really like my PSP but I didn't even know PSP has 20 games coming out.
Isn't VC3 coming out in 2011?
I would be excited for The 3rd Birthday if I had a PSP. There's also WKC PSP.
Wow... PSP sucks
Valkyria Chronicles 3 ?
i agree with 3
For once, I agree with most of these selections
