Want to Play White Knight Chronicles 2? Better Play #1 First! - News
by VGChartz Staff , posted on 04 June 2010 / 9,341 ViewsIn an interview with 4Gamer.net (translated and reported by andriasang.com), White Knight Chronicles series director Toshiyuki Kusuda reveals that before you can play White Knight Chronicles 2 you have to have clear data for the first game. That means you have to beat the game and not simply have a save file for it.
For those who haven't played the first game yet you'll be happy that the second game also includes the first game on the disc but with the gameplay updated with systems from the sequel. For those who have already played the game and beaten it, you can safely start the second game. But for those who already own the first game and haven't beaten it for whatever reason, you're presented with the option to complete the game in advance of the sequel or play the game from the beginning again with the new gameplay included.

If you have clear data, you can replay the game again from level 1 or continue at the end of the first game before playing the sequel. If you start the game again you gain back your items but your online profile is also set to level 1 as well. If you play from the sequel's starting point your level starts below level 35.
The series director believes even if you've played the first game already, you will find that the game is fresh thanks to the new gameplay system.

Also of note is that your online profile is not connnected between both games, but social networking components such as your friends list, journal entries, and the ability to send messages will remain intact.

The thing is how long is this going to take to come to europa and the rest of the world after its released in japan, because it took far too long last time
Glad I didn't pick up the first one for a sale that I saw going on for it. I'll have to wait a bit longer as I want it either $20 or a low price, but I'll be picking this one up instead and won't pick up the first.
@Wagram
What about all the people who buy games on day one and have to pay full price, but the people who wait a year or more get half price? It's basically the same logic, except with a much bigger discount... and when you consider their situation (them wanting to make the first game mandatory and all) it makes sense.
I will definately get the sequel :D!
They better be giving some sort of bonus to those who bought the first game. Because this is extremely unfair to those who shelled out the money. and now they re handing out an upgraded version for free.
strange but kinda cool, and they include the first game FREE (?) with the sequel, who wouldn't want two games in one :)
That's one of the oddest things I've ever heard, but hopefully the gameplay is improved enough that it's worth it. I never picked up the first game for all its issues.
Munkeh111...round 16-25hrs...+ online if you want.
The sales for it atm are bust...most critics slamed it hard for its very flawed gameplay...which it indeed does have(...example...you use a close rng attack means you have to be close rng to monster...monster can use close rng attack...and you be 600ft away.....)
As for folks going wtf at the clear file thing...ummm...really? who the fug plays a sequel and skips the 1st part of the story?
I thought WTF? Untill he mentioned the first game+ is included with the second game.
How long will it take you to finish that whole game? But 2 RPGs for the price of one is a good deal
Now this is getting interesting. The gameplay was the main problem for me about this game but if they fix it in a good way, I'll be buying it!
@hiroko
The sales are dead anyway.
I rented the first game and liked a lot of things about it, (especially the environments) but the game didn't hook me and I didn't get that far. Part of it had to do with the battle system, which seemed to be a little slow.
It'll be interesting to see what the changes are to the gameplay, because if they tweak the battle system enough, I'd definitely consider getting this.
that is soo lame now nobody will ever buy WKC
I just beat the first one about 3 days ago, so I'm good. Will keep my save data and start the sequel. The only reason I might play the first is if they fix that horrid voice acting. The dub was atrocious. It's almost like L-5 wasn't even counting on a US release. Rogue Galaxy's voice acting and mo-cap completely destroys WKC1. Here's hoping for a sequel to RG soon. Bring back cel-shading and day/night cycles, L-5.
2 games for the price of one is sick, though. Bioware should takes notes. (ME1-2 for PS3 @ E3?)
Nice deal , 2 games for 1 and with updated gameplay, I was going to buy the first but I guess now I will just wait for the second .
wow..color me surprised. Pretty cool idea and geez 2 for 1 nice
wait, so its two games in one? that is actually a great deal.
