Capcom Updates Its Best-Sellers List - Monster Hunter World at 20.5M, RE4 Remake at 7.6M - Sales

Capcom has updated its list of Platinum Titles, games that have sold over one million units as of June 30, 2024. The list includes 121 games with sales over one million units, 62 over two million units, 14 over five million units, and six over 10 million units sold.

Resident Evil 4 remake sold 600,000 units to bring lifetime sales to 7.6 million units, Resident Evil 2 remake sold 300,000 units to bring sales to 14.2 million units, and Resident Evil 3 remake sold 300,000 units to bring lifetime sales to nine million units.

Resident Evil 7: biohazard sold 400,000 units to bring lifetime sales to 13.7 million units and Resident Evil Village sold 300,000 units to bring sales to 10.1 million units.

Monster Hunter Rise sold 700,000 units in the quarter to bring lifetime sales to 15.4 million units. Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak sold 700,000 units to bring lifetime sales to 8.4 million units.

Monster Hunter: World sold 400,000 units in the quarter to bring lifetime sales to 20.5 million units, while the Iceborne expansion sold 800,000 units for a total of 13.4 million units.

Dragon's Dogma 2 sold 400,000 units in the quarter to bring lifetime sales to three million units. Street Fighter 6 sold 400,000 units in the quarter to bring lifetime sales to 3.7 million units. Devil May Cry 5 sold 300,000 units to bring sales to 8.4 million units.

It still blows my mind that such a legendary game company like Capcom didn't even a have a single 10 million seller title until 2017 with Resident Evil 7. Actually, I think Monster Hunter: World may have reached 10 million before RE7 did which would push that milestone to 2018.

RE7 didn’t reach 10m until late 2021 or early 2022. Initially it was an underachiever and didn’t reach its lunch sales target. It was probably RE2 that revitalised the franchise more than 7

It should also be noted that 4,5 and 6 all broke 10m when you combine editions. Capcom were really weird with sales tracking previously so even the gold edition of RE5 was tracked separately from the base edition.

What they tried to do with the Resident Evils after 4 they achieved by going back to their roots with 7, and getting Monster Hunter to blow up in the west also helped a ton.

Curious that RE4 Remake is so far behind RE2 Remake. It's 1+ years of sales vs 5+, but I wonder how they're comparing launch alligned.

Its moving a bit slower than RE2 did...
However, RE2 got a solid boost when RE3 released which is something RE4 has not gotten.

Plus RE2 is available in a combo pack with RE3 that boosted the sales of both games 2 years or so after launch.
I'm confident RE4 will continue to sell very well but idk if it will catch RE2.
