Impressive. I do wonder with many of these "legacy" series how many truely new players are gained from internet hearsay. This is the fastest selling in the series, while that doens't mean it will be the highest selling, it might be likely but then '8', how many youthers are going to jump on a game with 8 in it?
Now admittingly, knowing new Final Fantasy players, people do jump into games at odd times, playing Rebirth as their first FF game ever is always funny to me.
Any yet there are so many older series and titles that are seemingly left in limbo because they don't have an audience or the publishers don't think there is one. Games like this proving there is.
A lot of these Japanese developed games do well on Steam, primarily in China and East Asian countries.
Ace combat 8 looks to have sold around 40% of its copies on Steam and player count peaks during Asian peak time and completely drops off for Europe and the USA.
It’s also significantly cheaper in China, on Steam, than in the west,
So, for a lot of these games the growth is from China, through Steam and regional pricing opening up that territory to new gaming experiences.
You know, you are right, I never considered the Chinese market specially. 20 years ago, China wouldn't have had available PS/Xbox, wouldn't have had such a large PC gaming playerbase but things have jumped massively in years.
so there is potential that, yes those game series do not have the market... in the west but in China, there's suddenly a whole new audience, which is as big, if not bigger, than all of Europe.
Congrats bandai namco
