A Microsoft spokesperson in a statement sent to Windows Central said there are no plans to raise the price of the Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S consoles.

The statement from Microsoft follows Sony Interactive Entertainment's announcement it will increase the price of the PlayStation 5 in select markets.

The price of the PS5 has been conformed to be more expensive in Europe, UK, Japan, China, Australia, Mexico, Canada, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, and Vietnam.

When the Seried S was first announced, a large number of people thought it was a bad idea or didn’t understand why it needed to exist.

It now seems like a stroke of genius, in hindsight. It’s mere existence means that averaged out per SKU, Microsoft is paying less for parts than Sony, by probably a considerable margin, which means that Microsoft can get more consoles per dollar spent. Sony is having to bleed substantial revenue to maintain its sales lead, which is why they were forced into this price hike and Microsoft was not

It was lucky but yah, as of now; this was an amazing move from Microsoft; don't think anyone can argue that.

Yeah, they didn't predict the pandemic or the supply chain challenges when they green-lit the Series S, which is the "lucky" part. But even without that, it was a good strategy. It meant they could immediately stop manufacturing the Xbox One, and move as many people to their new architectures as soon as possible. Since the Series S launched at about the same price as the Xbox One and PS4, but was so much better, it was definitely a winner.

Sony still makes the PS4, partly because of supply issues but also partly as a budget option for people who couldn't/wouldn't afford a PS5 even if they could find one. A Series S is dramatically better hardware than the PS4, and costs about the same.

They have benefited from how issues mentioned above but it wasn't all luck they stated one of the main reason the Series S existed was because they didn't see price cuts happening to the hardware to the extent of how previous generations have been and needed a way to attract the budget buyer who generally buys mid/late gen after price cuts.

Totally. Hence my comments that it was a mix of good planning and luck. Good planning to anticipate the need, luck that the supply situation favoured their decision.

I see. Well maybe not only luck :) in any case it really turned out very well.

Yeah, the Series S would have probably been green-lit likely before the pandemic, and definitely before the supply-chain issues. So that's the good strategy part. But you're definitely right that they got lucky as well.

I always felt the Series S is a great idea. The only thing really worth debating is the capabilities. Less RAM and One X having better resolution capabilities being my primary concerns.

Ive Just checked price for some tvs and smartphones which were released two years ago and were based on technologies from 2020. Strangely all of them are cheaper now. No price rising.

It depends on what the product is. For instance cars. I got my car for $18k brand new. Now it's over $22k used and from the exact same dealership. Toyota Corolla.

They don't need to increase the price coz it always second fiddle to the ps5,

If people had a choice they would straight up pick up ps5 but becoz the stock is so limited they would pick up the box
