Xbox Series X and S Shortages Likely to Continue Through Early 2021 - News
by William D'Angelo , posted on 01 December 2020 / 3,235 ViewsWhen Microsoft launched the Xbox Series X and S last week on November 10, the consoles quickly sold out in the majority of the 40 countries it launched in. The Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S sold between them an estimated 1.2 million to 1.4 million units worldwide in its first 24 hours, according to VGChartz estimates.
Xbox chief financial officer Tim Stuart at the Jefferies Interactive Entertainment conference (and transcribed by Seeking Alpha) expects the Xbox Series X and S to be in short supply through the first quarter of 2021 with more of the demand being met in the following quarter.
"For Q2, we gave guidance at our last earnings call of a zone that we'll be in," said Stuart. "And we'll, frankly, be within that zone because we know the supply profile that we're having. I think we'll continue to see supply shortages as we head into the post-holiday quarter, so Microsoft's Q3, calendar Q1. And then when we get to Q4, all of our supply chain continuing to go full speed heading into kind of the pre-summer months.
"And that's where I start to -- I expect to see a little bit of the demand -- the supply profile, meeting the demand profile. You'll be outside of a holiday window. We'll have supply cranking over the next, what, 4, 5, 6 months. And that's when I expect to see really that demand profile start to be met, which will be really, really great.
"And really, what that's going to do is, once we get into that world of a great high end, call it, a great high-powered console, plus that lower-end SKU for value, I think we're going to start to see some real velocity kick up, which I'm really excited to see."
The Xbox Series X and S had a global launch across 40 countries, with Xbox All-Access launching in 12 countries.

I sure would expect launch + holiday month to have significant shortages. Let's see how soon on 2021 we will see readily available units. As long as by March/April they are available I'm fine.
Same. I would like to get one around that time.
I wonder if delaying Halo Infinite was more due to system shortages rather than polish? Halo is a game with enough protential to sell 10+ million units but if system supply is low and struggling than it would make more sense to release it when supply heightens. Just a throught.
I don't think that is the real reason, but what you say isn't wrong. Halo will have a bigger impact in 2021 than it ever could in 2020.
I think they might have looked at both scenarios and came to the same conclusion that its a win win if they waited on release. However that's just my assumption.
Microsofts "All-Access"-partner in Denmark, Elgiganten, has had "100+" Series S in stock since the launch (while the Series X and the PS5 have been sold out the entire time since preorders went live). So there is some stock somewhere.
Never saw the S out of stock
I think this is intentional to iron out the kinks
Unfortunately this may lead to even more mistaken gift purchases if the old One S and X are the only ones on shelves.
By that point Halo Infinite should be out so waiting isn't so bad for the Microsoft Series X :)
Yeah I don't see a Series X or Series S anywhere around where I live. Last year I laughed so hard when a co worker bragged about buying 6 PS4s and 6 X1s to scalp...just to have both be back in stock by XMas.
