by VGChartz Staff , posted on 17 July 2009 / 2,317 Views

Dragon Ball: Revenge of King Piccolo is a side scrolling action adventure game with characters and environments rendered in 3D. This Bandai title goes on sale in Japan on July 23rd.

Using the Wiimote, the game allows the player to use a special lock-on system to control the character Goku as he travels the world in a quest to stop the evil King Piccolo. The controls are explained further in detail.

In the game a blue lock-on target appears on the screen. By pressing the Z button and timing certain motions with the Wiimote a variety of moves can be executed by the player.

This move quickly moves Goku from one place to another.

It looks gorgeous but my only concern is simplistic controls. If there isn't enough variety or depth in the combat then it will get kinda stale. I originally thought it was only using 2 buttons but this lock-on mechanic adds some more complexity.

I am slightly confused on the controls mentioned here though. So do you use the wiimote IR to control the blue lock on target so you can quickly switch between enemies ?! If so that sounds absolutely awesome but how are you supposed to do wiimote motions while trying to lock onto different enemies?

Man I really like the idea of pointing at enemies and then hitting buttons to attack them. This would allow you to keep combos going and very easily change who you want to hit next by moving the lock on cursor over them with the IR tracking. That would be SWEET!!

I dont put much faith in to Famitsu reviews. Anyhow, its a Dragon Ball game, they have always been quick paced button mashers. At least this has the Wiimote to mix things up.

Still one of my most anticipated games. Despite the Famitsu score.

Got a pretty bad review by Famitsu, so I think sales will be bad.
