The PS3 Couldn't Handle The Last Guardian, Switch to PS4 Happened in 2012 - News
by William D'Angelo , posted on 17 June 2015 / 4,703 ViewsThe Last Guardian was originally announced for the PlayStation 3 at E3 in 2009. At the time it was not realised how much the PlayStation 3 hardware would struggle to handle running the game smoothly.

The original trailer in 2009 was running on a specced up PlayStation 3. By 2011 progress on the game had slowed down as the team faced technical issues. The game was running at a low frame rate and several features were still missing. Now that the game has made the switch to the PlayStation 4 development is back on track.
Fumito Ueda told Kotaku the following:
"So it was clear that the team had to make a compromise in terms of features and number of characters so while they were taking time, the engineering team ported the code on the SPU [processors of the PS3] to improve the performance, but it was taking lots of time.
But, in the meantime PS4 arrived, the development environment was available. So in 2012 it became apparent we should move it to PS4 to achieve the visual [ideal.]"
The Last Guardian will be released for the PlayStation 4 in 2016.

So same thing that happened with ICO. Development started on the PS1 but technical limitations meant that they had to make it a PS2 game.
I'm glad the games is being made on PS4. I rather have a gorgeous looking game working well than a buggy one on PS3.
Only problem is that the game still looks like a ps3 title, and not even a great one at that, and is still riddled with bugs and nothing new to show.... I saw the e3 closed doors demo and even my wife thought it looked terrible compared to Horizon and Uncharted.
It couldn't handle the awesomeness!
I hate that excuse. Im sure PS3 could handle it just fine with lower quality graphics. Just like BF4, Destiny, etc...
Going being the schedule the game really should be ready by 2016.
Well, I'm going to be buying a PS4 then!
So the game was close to end by 2011, changed to ps4 by 2012 and they still will need 6-18 months to port it to ps4. Talk about not being inneficient. After ps4 release ask ND to port it to ps3, will probably achieve what was presented on E3.
So this means they started to devoloped it to run on 4GB before cerny decided to make it 8 gb in last minute in 2013 for ps4, so much stones during the path for sure
I shudder to think what would happen if Cerny didn't make it 8GB.
