2011 Year on Year Sales and Market Share Update to December 24th - News

Here we see data representing the global sales through to consumers and change in sales performance of the three home consoles over comparable periods for 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011.  Also shown is the market share for each of the consoles over the same periods.




"Year to date" sales for 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 sales are shown in series at the top of the table and then just below a comparison of 2011 versus 2009 and 2011 versus 2010 is displayed.  This provides an easy-to-view summary of all the data.

- Up 53k, Up YTD 3.68%
Playstation Portable - Down YOY 191k, Down YTD 18.37%

Nintendo

Nintendo Wii - Down YOY 288k, Down YTD 28.18%
Nintendo DS - Down YOY 1,066k, Down YTD 56.33%

For those interested, since Jan 1st this year, Wii has lost 2.79% marketshare, X360 has gained 1.14%, and PS3 has gained 1.65%

Ps3 up YOY for the 4th year running :) good job! Will be interesting to see if it can do it for the 5th year..

360 needs 300k more than PS3 in one week to outsell it and become the best selling home console of the year... this looks interesting!

Kind of sad to see the Wii to keep going down :/ But, the Wii U is coming out. People are just going to keep waiting for that. It's also nice to see the PS3 getting some well deserved recognition sales wise!

Actually, the reason the Wii has decreased is that it has had about 5 worthwhile games this past year. But The Wii U should make up for it.

I never necessarily said it's just because of that. I know their has been a drought of good games for it.
