Overview
The 3DS and PlayStation 3 remain in the lead by a huge amount, 122,000 and 65,000 respectively. Even with the 3DS sales are still down year on year. Software sales, on the back of Madden NFL 12, are up week on week. There are four debuts in the top 40, which is down from eight last week. There are no software milestones this week. Four games sold over 100,000, which is the same as last week, and the top nine sold over 50,000, down from 11 last week.
Worldwide Hardware
Week on week sales is flat for the Xbox 360 and down for every other platform. The 3DS takes the top spot with sales of 215,000, which is down 32,000 (-13%). PlayStation 3 sales are down 15,000 (-7%) to 188,000 units sold. The Xbox 360 is flat with sales of 123,000. The DS is down 4,000 (-4%) week on week, as it sold 93,000 units this week. The PSP sold 86,000 units, which is down 3,000 (-3%). Total week on week sales are down 60,000 (-7%) to 814,000.
Year on year sales are up for the PlayStation 3 and down for every other platform. The PlayStation 3 is up 22,000 (13%), the Wii is down 66,000 (-38%), and the Xbox 360 is down 46,000 (-27%). The PSP is down 35,000 (-29%) and the DS is down 143,000 (-61%). Total year on year sales are down 53,000 (-6%).
For this week the gap between the three home consoles has shrunk slightly, with the PlayStation 3 with a 45 percent market share, the Xbox 360 with a 29 percent, and the Wii with a 26 percent. The PlayStation 3 has been in sole position of first for the last nine weeks. The gap between the Xbox 360 and Wii has grown for a second week as Wii sales have dropped for a second week. Compared with ten weeks ago PlayStation 3 sales are up, and Wii and Xbox 360 sales are down.
3DS remains well ahead of the DS and PSP for a third straight week outselling both of them combined. The gap between the DS and PSP remains small at just 7,000 this week compared to 49,000 the week of July 2. The DS has a 52 percent market share this week for the current generation handhelds and the PSP a 48 percent. Compared with ten weeks ago 3DS sales are up and the DS and PSP sales are down.
Worldwide Software
Four games debuted in the top 40 this week, down from eight last week. Madden NFL 12 (X360) debuted at the top this week with sales of 693,000. The PlayStation 3 version debuted at number two with sales of 582,000. The Wii version debuted at number 19 with sales of 32,000. The game launched in the Americas and EMEAA, with no plans to be released in Japan.
Grand Knights History (PSP) debuted at number seven with sales of 66,000. The game launched in Japan, with no plans to be released elsewhere.
Driver: San Francisco (PS3) debuted at number 13 with sales of 45,000. The Xbox 360 version debuted at number 20 with sales of 29,000. The game launched in Japan and in the Americas on September 6 and Japan on November 10.
Corpse Party: Book of Shadows (PSP) debuted at number 34 with sales of 15,000. The game launched in Japan, with no plans to be released elsewhere.
Other games in the top 10 that are not debuts include Deus Ex: Human Revolution (X360) at number three with sales of 150,000. The PlayStation 3 version is at number four with sales of 106,000. Mario Kart Wii is at number five with sales of 75,000.
Wii Sports Resort is at number six with sales of 67,000. Zumba Fitness (Wii) is at number eight with sales of 55,000. Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD Ver. (PS3) is at number nine with sales of 55,000. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D (3DS) rounds out the top 10 with sales of 50,000.
Week on week software totals are up for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii, flat for the PSP and down for the PSP and 3DS. The PlayStation 3 takes the top spot this week with 1.76 million games sold, an increase of 251,000 (17%). The Xbox 360 sold 1.68 million games, an increase of 522,000 (45%). Wii software sales increase to 1.20 million, which is an increase of 49,000 (4%). The DS sold 733,000 games, which is the same as last week. PSP game sales are down compared to last week with 403,000 games sold, a decrease of 130,000 (-24%). The 3DS sold 252,000 games, a decrease of 20,000 (-7%). Total combined software is up week on week to 6.03 million games sold an increase of 672,000 (21%).
Year on year software totals are up for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and down for the Wii, DS and PSP. The PlayStation 3 is up 584,000 (50%), the Wii is down 771,000 (-39%) and the Xbox 360 is up 498,000 (-11%). The DS is down 460,000 (-39%) and the PSP is down 164,000 (-29%). Total combined software is down 61,000 (-1%) games sold year on year.
For this week the gap between the three home consoles software sales grow due to the release of Madden NFL 12 . The Wii has a 26 percent market share, the Xbox 360 with a 36 percent, and the PlayStation 3 with a 38 percent. PlayStation 3 software sales are at the top for a second week. Wii software sales are in third for a second week, which is after five weeks at the top. Compared to ten weeks ago the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 are up and the Wii is down.
The DS remains at the top as the gap between it and the PSP grow. 3DS software sales drop for a second week. Compared to ten weeks ago the PSP is up and the DS and 3DS are down.
