Lens of Truth Side-by-Side: Killzone 2 and Killzone 3 Retro Maps

by Chris Arnone, posted on 15 April 2011 / 3,982 Views

As most of you probably know, we're running an awesome weekly giveaway in which you can win a brand-spankin' new copy of Killzone 3, Gran Turismo 5, or inFamous 2. This is brought to you by the current Schick/Edge promotion in which you can submit codes off Schick and Edge products to get free in-game content for those same three games. What do you get for Killzone 3 with one of these codes? You get the Retro Map Pack. This pack features two favorite multiplayer maps from Killzone 2: Salamun Market and Blood Gracht.

We got to wondering: how do these fan-favorite maps hold up in Killzone 3 compared to their Killzone 2 origins? We decided to enlist our friends and partners at The Lens of Truth to help us out. First up are some side-by-side comparison screenshots. Killzone 2 is on the left, Killzone 3 on the right.

As you can see, the retro maps on Killzone 3 look much brighter and more crisp than their Killzone 2 counterparts. Be sure to check out more of these side-by-sides in the gallery below.

Of course, it wouldn't be a Lens of Truth comparison without a high-definition video.

There you have it. What are some of your favorite multiplayer maps from the Killzone franchise?

Be sure to enter for a chance to win Killzone 3 (or Gran Turismo 5 or inFamous 2) on our sweepstakes page, then pick up some Schick or Edge products so you can grab that Retro Map Pack for free!

Sensei (on 16 April 2011)

They don't say which side is KZ2 or KZ3... lol. Anyway both look very good...

kain_kusanagi (on 15 April 2011)

I thought they were going to do an in-depth comparison showing how much better Crysis 2 looks compared to KZ3? What happened to that?

walkerj (on 15 April 2011)

lol. they compare a night map with a day map?

geddesmond2 (on 15 April 2011)

I like the guns, blood, explosions and lighting effects better in Killzone 3 but everything else looks better in KZ2! Possibley because its more darker.

chidori-chan2 (on 15 April 2011)

I like everything about KZ2 better. liked the dark style of Killzone 2. It kept the kids away..

CaptainHavok (on 16 April 2011)

@Sensei Last sentence of the first paragraph. Yes, yes it does say which side is which.

sergiodaly (on 15 April 2011)

even if the graphics in 3 are better... the KZ2 environments are so cool and get the action to some place else...

Omac (on 15 April 2011)

Ya, one is shot at night. The other during the day?

CaptainHavok (on 15 April 2011)

@walkerj They're the same maps, Salamun Market and Blood Gracht.

SuperAnthony64 (on 15 April 2011)

Dam. Its like night and day lol. makes you wonder if the ps3 has more untapped power.

radiantshadow92 (on 15 April 2011)

killzone 2 looks like a tech demo lol

ethomaz (on 15 April 2011)

Colors made a good change in Killzone.

snakefisher (on 15 April 2011)

christ how dark killzone 2 is

dsage01 (on 15 April 2011)

Killzone 3 is the best fps ever for me so Killzone 2 hardly matches it

Vekta (on 15 April 2011)

wow Kz3 does look better, more crisp and detailed. But i do like and miss the darken style in kz2. Both great games both worth the purchases!

Bl00dSaint (on 15 April 2011)

KZ3 definitely looks better!

yo_john117 (on 15 April 2011)

Wow KZ2 is one of the most uncolorful games Ive ever seen!

irstupid (on 15 April 2011)

and people said we were being fanboys by saying that killzone 2 was just muddied down dark colors. i mean hell even with the actual light in killzone 3 you can see how bland gray pastels killzone 2 was
