Warner Bros. and Paramount video game divisions have been combined following the completion of the $110 billion merger between the two companies now known as Skydance, according to a report from Variety.

Warner Bros. Games includes Hogwarts Legacy developer Avalanche Software, Mortal Kombat dev NetherRealm Studios, Batman Arkham dev Rocksteady Studios, Lego studio TT Games, as well as teams in Montreal and Boston.

Paramount Games Studio was founded in June 2026 that combines Skydance Interactive and Skydance New Media.

Paramount Games Studio boss Tony Driscoll will oversee the combined video game company. He will be the resident of games and experiences, as well as leading corporate strategy and development.

Josh Silverman will be president of global products and publishing, Jim Sterner will remain chief people officer and continue to lead HR operations, Jose Turkienicz will continue as president of global operations, and Jeff Silberman will be Gordon's chief of staff in addition to continuing as executive vice president of corporate strategy.

"We’re investing in our future growth engines alongside our core ambitions in TV, Film and direct-to-consumer: Games, Experiences, Consumer Products, and Publishing," said Skydance president Andy Gordon.

"These are core pillars of our strategy to build engagement and fandom in both the physical and digital worlds. We want to meet consumers where they watch, play, and engage. At the same time, we see opportunities to build on DC Comics’ storytelling and expand our e-commerce offerings to connect fans with the brands they love."

I'd say I'm pretty optimistic about this. WB was not running their gaming division very well on their own in recent years, they lost money in fiscal year 2023 and 2024 and just barely made a profit in fiscal year 2025, they wasted Monolith on a Wonder Woman game for like 7 years then shut them down while still having the Nemesis system in patent limbo with no game actually using it currently, they talked about forcing live service stuff in Hogwarts Legacy 2 even though the first game was a huge success as fully singleplayer, they wasted Rocksteady on a live service Suicide Squad that took them like 8 years to make that flopped hard.

On the other hand, Paramount Games, formerly Skydance New Media and Skydance Interactive before they merged into one, has been staunchly focused on singleplayer and traditional multiplayer games and VR games rather than live-service ever since Skydance Interactive opened in 2016 and Skydance New Media opened in 2019 under Amy Hennig, every game they have announced is either VR or PC/console traditional singleplayer with or without a traditional multiplayer mode, nothing live service on their radar. If anyone can get WB moving back in the right direction, singleplayer with no live service elements, it's Paramount Games.

Who is optimistic about this?
I’d say I’m cynical (which I am) but then WB Games when deep down the live-service rabbit hole and openly stated they were moving on from single-player games, so will have to see if Skydance Games takes a different track.
Hogwarts Legacy and Batman Arkham were certainly more successful than the likes of Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad.
