Overview
Hardware sales are down this week for every platform except for the DS, while software sales are down for the Wii, PSP, and 3DS and are up for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and DS. The DS is over 200,000, the PlayStation 3, Wii, and Xbox 360 are over 150,000, the PSP is over 100,000, and the 3DS is just under 100,000. There are no hardware milestones this week. When it comes to software milestones, ordered in their position this week: Pokémon Black / White Version (DS) debuts in America this week pushing sales past the 8 million mark and Call of Duty: Black Ops (X360) reaches 12 million sold. One game sold over 2 million, three sold over 200,000, ten sold over 100,000 and the top 19 sold over 50,000.
Worldwide Hardware
Week on week sales take a hit this week as the DS is the only platform to not see a decrease. The DS is this week’s top platform as sales increase 33,000 (15%) to 247,000. The PlayStation 3 is the second bestselling platform and bestselling home console with sales of 296,000, a decrease of 8,000 (-4%). The Wii decreases 14,000 (-8%) to 168,000. The Xbox 360 drops 18,000 (-10%) to 165,000. The PSP sees a decrease of 48,000 (-29%) to 118,000. The 3DS takes a hit this week, due to the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Sales slide down to 96,000, a decrease of 112,000 (-54%). Total sales are down 167,000 (-16%) to 990,000.
Year on year sales are what they have been all year, slightly up for the Xbox 360 and down for every other platform. The Xbox 360 has seen an increase of just 4,000 (2%). The PSP has the smallest decrease down 28,000 (-19%). The PlayStation 3 has the second smallest decrease as it drops 54,000 (-2%). The DS is down 90,000 (-27%). The Wii with the biggest drop is down 97,000 (-37%). Total sales are down 169,000 (-15%) compared to one year ago.
All home consoles reach a new low this year, which is to be expected. The PlayStation 3 is in the lead for a fourth straight week, while the Xbox 360 with a slightly bigger drop than the Wii falls to third, for the first time since mid-January. Sales continue to remain near each other as the gap for the year is less than 250,000.
For a fourth straight week, between the DS and PSP, as one increases the other decreases. For the first two weeks of those weeks (2/19 & 2/26) the DS increased as the PSP decreased, for the third (3/5) the DS decreased as the PSP increased, and this week (3/12) it was the DS which increased and the PSP that decreased.
Worldwide Software
Four games debuted in the top 40, down from five the previous week. Dragon Age II (X360) is this week’s top debut, as the game also debuted for the PlayStation 3 and PC. The X360 version debuts at number two with sales of 393,000. The PS3 version debuts at number 4 with sales of 163,000. The PC version debuts at number six with sales of 144,000. The game debuted in America and EMEAA and has no plans to be released in Japan. The game was developed by BioWare Corp.
Dynasty Warriors 7 (PS3) debuts at number three with sales of 262,000. The game debuted in Japan and will launch in America on March 22 and EMEAA on April 1. The game was developed by Omega Force.
MLB 11: The Show (PS3) debuts at number 11 with sales of 94,000. The game debuted in America and being a baseball game will not be released anywhere else. The game was developed by SCEA San Diego Studios.
Major League Baseball 2k11 debuts for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this week. The X360 version debuts at number 16 with sales of 62,000. The PS3 version debuts at number 33 with sales of 32,000. The game debuted in America, and is currently TBA in Japan. The game was developed by Visual Concepts.
Other games in the top 10 that are not debuts include Pokémon Black / White Version (DS) at number one with sales of 2.34 million. Wii Sports is at number five with sales of 151,000.
Killzone 3 (PS3) is at number seven with sales of 126,000. Just Dance 2 (Wii) is at number eight with sales of 126,000. Wii Sports Resort is at number nine with sales of 120,000. Kinect Adventures! (X360) rounds out the top ten with sales of 106,000.
Week on week software totals are up for DS, PS3, and X360. The DS sees an increase of 1.54 million (12%) to 3.41 million with the release of Pokémon Black / White Version in America. The PS3 is up 107,000 (6%) to 1.98 million games sold. The X360 is up 78,000 (4%) to 1.90 million games sold. The Wii is down 186,000 (-9%) to 1.84 million games sold. The PSP decreases 272,000 (-35%) to 507,000 games sold. The 3DS drops 100,000 (-50%) to 102,000 games sold. Total combined software is up week on week to 9.73 million an increase of 1.17 million (14%).
Year on year software total are down for every platform, except for the DS which is up considerably. The DS is up 1.82 million (115%). The PS3 is down 1.03 million, the Wii is down 461,000, the X360 is down 373,000, and the PSP is down 114,000. Total combined software is down slightly year on year a decrease of only 52,000 (-1%).
Home consoles software sales remain neck and neck for another week. This week is the first time since the week of February 12 that that all three platforms didn’t increase or decrease together. The PS3 and X360 are up, while the Wii is down. Not much else to say right now other than to expect sales to remain really close until a major game launches.
DS software sales increase for a fifth straight week, and nearly double week on week to its highest point since the week of January 1. PSP software sales decrease for a second straight week, which is the first time since the week of January 22. 3DS software sales not surprisingly decrease as this is natural as there is still only a limited supply.

Europe sales are saving the PS3 right now. Slim and a price cut was the smartest thing Sony's done for their hardware
wow PS3 is beating Wii and XBOX 360! asked be the same thing when Halo 3 or Brawl launched I definitely would have said that PS3 has no chance of beating the 360
