2011 Year on Year Sales and Market Share Update to March 5th

Here we see data representing the global sales through to consumers and change in sales performance of the three home consoles over comparable periods for 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011.  Also shown is the market share for each of the consoles over the same periods.




"Year to date" sales for 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 sales are shown in series at the top of the table and then just below a comparison of 2011 versus 2009and 2011 versus 2010 is displayed.  This provides an easy-to-view summary of all the data.

Xbox 360 - Up YOY 35k, Up YTD 18.59%

Sony

Playstation 3 - Down YOY 22k, Down YTD 7.31%
Playstation Portable - Down YOY 4k, Down YTD 26.58%

Nintendo

Nintendo Wii - Down YOY 157k, Down YTD 35.34%
Nintendo DS - Down YOY 179k, Down YTD 31.98%

price cut would help but sony needs to stop losing money on hardware so its not gonna happen.Get your Portable ID!

Even though down YOY, the PS3 is doing very well!

That upwards adjustment really improved the PS3's YOY situation. The decline is so minimal now that a price cut could erase the decline in just a week or two. 360 is picking up a bit of slack and starting to rake in some respectable increases now. Wii seems to be in an almost completely irreversible situation. Looking at future weeks in 2010 Wii isn't seeing any easy comparisons until May.

3DS isn't part of this gen HW, so it'd skew the marketshare of PSP/DS. It won't be added till next year when PSP2 releases, then it'll have it's own chart.

If 3DS is included, PS2 could very well be included too Michael-5. My guess is that it's a 7th gen thing only..

Why isn't 3DS included? It may not have any YoY, or YTD sales to compare to, but it takes a portion of the market share. Hope you add in 3DS by it's Americas/EMEAA release week.
