Hayashi: Ninja Gaiden II and Bayonetta "Already Outdated"

Yousuke Hayashi, the man who took over at Team Ninja after Tomonobu Itagaki's resignation, has quite a bit to say about the 2008 entry in the Ninja Gaiden series. Namely, he says that now, less than 3 years after the release of Ninja Gaiden II, the game is already outdated.

“I think Ninja Gaiden II is already outdated,” he said, talking to Play. “That’s why we are making Ninja Gaiden III from scratch.” he continued.

He isn't just going to trash-talk his own company's products, though. He also has jabs ready for Platinum Games' action title Bayonetta, from legendary game designer and father of Devil May Cry Hideki Kamiya. “Bayonetta has some good stuff but Bayonetta is old, game design wise, already,” he said.

He doesn't seem particularly interested in ramping the difficulty up for this new installment of the series either, saying that “We are aiming to be the number one 3D action game. If we can do that we are fine not focusing on difficulty level. We don’t care.”

He wants fans to rest assured that it'll still be more of what they love, though. “But to prevent misunderstanding, Ninja Gaiden fans will still really love it. That is our responsibility. We make sure the fans of the series are satisfied by our game.”

Ninja Gaiden III is the first game in the series without any involvement whatsoever of Tomonobu Itagaki. However, it sure sounds like Yousuke Hayashi has more than enough cockiness and confidence to fill his predecessor's shoes.

Hayashi, you are not Itagaki nor will you ever BE Itagaki; you SUCK at trash-talking

Wow so he just insulted what I consider to be the two best action games this gen. Ng3 would honestly have to be the best game ever to make his comments valid. Bayonetta was a truly amazing game.

At kowen, guess you never played gow3... >_> Anywho, funny he's trashing Bayonetta when I'm playing it now!! I'm finding it hard that he's gonna top it and their own sequel! Well good luck, looking forward to it. Hack and Slash is my favourite genre, dynasty warriors don't count... >_>

Well... on Bayonetta... he is wrong Best game of its type this gen by far and a very good game in its own right.

I never liked DMC, Beyonetta, OR ninja Gaiden. Not that I have anything against 3D action games in general though. I wonder if he'll make a game that I can enjoy? Judging from Metroid Other M, I don't think so.

I agree with him Bayonetta was just a suped up DMC

I'm still looking forward to playing Devil May Cry 4, Ninja Gaiden 2 and Bayonetta. Bought the former 2 years ago, just haven't had time to get into them. Maybe they are old, but they are still fun, and $60 is too much to warrent a purchase on a 10 hour action game.

I completely agree with Yousuke Hayashi. Ninja Gaiden II wasn't necessarily a bad game, it's just an ok game. Personally I think it's quite boring but nevertheless overall it's an ok game. As for Bayonetta... I hated everything about it, for me it's definitely one of the worst games in the hack 'n' slash genre... I don't like DMC games either, although i'm interested to see what Ninja Theory do with the upcoming DMC game seeing as I consider Enslaved odyssey to the west & Heavenly Sword to be good games. In my opinion God of War III is undoubtedly by far the best game in the hack 'n' slash genre, it's just an absolute masterpiece. Other games worth mentioning are Castlevania: lords of shadow which is an amazing game, Dante's Inferno is also a good game. Hack 'n' slash is my favourite genre so I'm looking forward to seeing how much of an improvement Ninja Gaiden III will be, the more great hack 'n' slash games the better!

Bayonetta's better than GOW3 in my book; the latter feels like its predecessors just wirth souped up graphics and scale, while Bayonetta has a lot more variety and creativity, not to mention a much deeper combat system.
