gamrPreview: 20 Most Anticipated Wii Games of 2011 - News
by VGChartz Staff , posted on 07 January 2011 / 14,097 ViewsNintendo’s new policy of not revealing too many games too early is somewhat of a double edged sword. On one hand, gamers have the chance to have more surprises at E3 and other trade shows for games released this winter. On the other, coming up with 20 games excluding multiplatform games, games only being released in Japan, and random “shovelware” is a tough task. Granted, I could have posted all of the EA sports games, or other obvious choices, but that would have been too boring a list. I wanted to show off what could be the real gems on the Wii. Without further ado, here are the top twenty games that look to make (mostly) the early parts of 2011 awesome on the Wii. I have organized the games into alphabetical order, and included links to the games own personal pages in our database.

TBA 2011
One of the most successful mobile games in the history of cell phone games is heading to our living room. Angry Birds, for those un-informed, pits the player against a horde of evil pigs standing around in rickety structures. Your only weapon in this task is a trusty slingshot and a flock of the titular fowl. After the success of both Boom Blox games on the Wii, it’s a no-brainer that this game would head over to the system.

TBA 2011
Gaijin Games has made a name for themselves by making seemingly simple games into amazing works of digital art. With BIT. TRIPBEAT we learned that the overall idea and basic mechanics of Pong are still amazing especially when tweaked to an insane level with shoot ‘em up mechanics, cool music and bright colors. Next, they took on a game idea similar to Asteroids and added LSD, then a running game also whacked out. What is next for Commander Video, especially after the events of BIT.TRIP FATE? Early screenshots have shown that the game seems a bit similar to the very first game in the series albeit with tweaks from all five previous games. Wii Ware fans should not miss this one!
TWO Call of Duty games! (Titles Not known)

TBA 2011
Rather than take up two entries, I have combined this into one heading. Sometime last spring it was revealed that Activision was planning not one, but two possible entries into the Call of Duty franchise to hit this year. Not only would gamers be getting to play the main yearly shooter, but a second game – most likely a spinoff action adventure game is in the works. Wii gamers got a taste of what the HD consoles were enjoying so much with a full featured Call of Duty Black Ops this past winter, so it would be no surprise that these two should end up over there as well. Rumors have been flying that one of these two games is a prequel, of sorts to the Modern Warfare series, but no concrete info has been heard.

Feb 15, 2011
One of the most hyped Wii games ever would have to be High Voltage’s foray into a (at that time) weak arena, the Wii first person shooter. Conduit 2 plans to take the shooting out of the confines of famous Washington D.C. landmarks and into a handful of areas like Siberia or even Atlantis. The game promises a concentration on both art and storyline, two things criticized in the last outing.

TBA 2011
Perhaps one of the biggest surprise hits on the Wii most recently was the quirky little sandbox game De Blob. Take one part Katamary Damacy and one part Grand Theft Auto, mix in some puzzles and you have De Blob in a nutshell. Not only will our little ink monsters stay true to the original, but there will be new monsters, new moves, and some 2D platforming elements this time around!
Fatal Frame Game

TBA 2011
This is the first game on here that may be unlikely to ever come out in the U.S. If you recall there was a Fatal Frame game released a few years ago. This game was glanced over due to some gameplay issues and ultimately never released in the U.S. A second game for the Wii was revealed at a recent Nintendo conference. Maybe one of these two games still has a shot in the west?

TBA 2011
Shooter fans on the Wii have been clamoring for a co-op online shooter similar to that style imparted in the Left 4 Deadfranchise. Fans seemed to have their prayers answered when High Voltage, the guys behind the Conduit series revealed The Grinder. The Grinder has yet to find a publisher, but it is still very possible that we will be seeing it this year.
Inazuma Eleven: Strikers

TBA 2011
Inazuma Eleven is a series of Soccer (football) based role playing games that until very recently was locked into the status of releasing only in the land of the rising sun. With an upcoming European release for the last Nintendo DS iteration of the game, we could possibly end up with a western release of the Wii game Inazuma Eleven: Strikers if we are lucky.

TBA 2011
Just like how Final Fantasy was the (supposed) last game to be made by a small company called Square, The Last Story very well could be the final game made by Mistwalker studios. Not only is the game created by Hironobu Sakaguchi, the father of the Final Fantasy franchise, but it also has the added backing of Nobuo Uematsu, the man behind all of the music in Final Fantasy. The game will sport competitive and cooperative multiplayer and other trappings not really seen in many RPGs. While the game is set to release in late January in Japan, a western release has not been announced as of yet.
Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Late 2011
As with any game in the Zelda franchise, Skyward Sword is a hugely anticipated game that should be launching sometime this winter. With an art style reminiscent of classic impressionist painters, and controls based on the Wii Motion+ technology, this could be the most immersive Zelda game to date.

TBA 2011
The next big franchise to get the Lego treatment seems to be Disney’s swashbuckling blockbuster film franchise The Pirates of the Caribbean. With four movies of material and an abundance of already zany antics in the films, these games should be really fun and help show that the Lego franchise is as strong as ever. And wait, you said you like LEGO games? Read below!
LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars

Feb 15, 2011
That’s right another Lego Star Wars game is in the works! After the smashing success of the last two forays into “… a galaxy far far away”, the Travelers Tales team are tackling the hit Cartoon Network TV series and it’s storylines for the game.

January 2011
Sometimes it takes a small idea to totally turn a genre on its head, and with Lost in Shadow that idea includes getting rid of the very platforms that the platform genre relies on. Instead the main character walks around on shadows cast by just about every item in the games foreground, and the key to winning the game is manipulating these items to change the way shadows are cast. This game literally just came out, so try to snag a copy!

Feb 7, 2011
Mario has tackled baseball, golf, soccer, tennis and really just about every other sport you can imagine. What Mario Sports Mix does is take some of those ideas and combine them into a grab bag of different games. Developed by Square Enix, this sports title combines volleyball, two types of hockey, dodgeball and even basketball into the ultimate sports game.
Night of the Sacrifice

TBA 2011
Somehow the Wii has become the go-to console for survival horror games, especially those with weird ideas. Night of Sacrifice is notable in that it uses the Wii remote as a flashlight and somehow uses the Wii Balance board for control. Marvelous hasn’t really spilled the beans on this title yet, so lets hope they reveal some info soon, like a western release!

TBA 2011
Retro City Rampage does for videogames what Mel Brooks and other parody film makers used to do all the time, it lampoons everything about one particular era in gaming – the 1980’s. We have allusions to Back to the Future, Rambo, the Ninja Turtles, and just about everything else. The game itself seems to be a huge expansive world, set up in a similar vein to the Grand Theft Auto series, if not parodying its attitude as well. Look for this on Wii Ware soon!
Rhythm Heaven Wii

TBA 2011
Rhythm Heaven, a popular DS rhythm game is making its way over to the Wii. It’s not totally clear as to whether this is a port or some kind of sequel, but honestly I would assume the latter.

TBA 2011
RPG fans have been clamoring for that real “killer ap” RPG on the Wii, and aside from a few gems there hasn’t really been one. From the same studio that brought us Xenogears and the Xenosaga games, Xenoblade takes the tried and true RPG formula a different way. Much like a handful of western RPGs, a sprinkling of shooter elements and other things found in many action games has found its way into the action. Time will tell if we get a western release.

Winter 2011
For the better part of a decade we have been without an entry in this hugely popular trivia game series. For those that have not played any of these, this game not only awards winners, but berates losers, basically ridiculing anything you do wrong with sarcastic remarks. Not for the faint of heart, but an awesome game none-the-less.
That’s it for the list, what games will you guys be getting?

That's not exactly the greatest list haha
No Pikmin 3, or Dragon Quest X? :O!!
Only 5 I'm interested in are Zelda, Pikmin, The Last Story, Dragon Quest X and XenoBlade. I wish Fatal Frame made it to NA, it looks like a proper 3rd party exclusive.
theres only 3 games im interested in and 2 of them are not even confirmed for US. :(
Not too many classic remakes on the list yet, but i am sure than can milk a couple for 10+ million in sales....
LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean sounds interesting to me. Is it going to cover the three that's have come is my question. I am thinking most likely.
there is a You Don't Know Jack game for Wii in the work? whaaaaaaaaaaaaat?
I'm looking forward to Kirby's Epic Yarn most
Sincerely,
Wretched, neglected Brit.
Pikmin 3 would make this list amazing!!
There's a "western" release for Xenoblade, article writer.
Look for Monado on Amazon.
Retro City Rampage: Is he yanking Doc Brown outta the DeLorean?
7 games that look interesting and 2 maybe games and the rest doesn't look too interesting.. not bad but in comparison to HD twins... this is pathetic due to quality.
This is the first i hear of Night of the Sacrifice, i hope its good. I hope Fatal frame gets released in North America. The LAST STORY!!!!!!. Zelda as well.
The games on this list that I really need in 2011:
- Xenoblade
- The Last Story
-
Zelda: Skyward Sword
I really hope I see a release date for all these at E3 2011.
Zelda and The Last Story will be one of the best games of the year. Xenoblade, de Blob and Fatal Frame are great games too. I think it'll be more games this year that are unannounced today, specially of Nintendo.
Could care less about Call of Duty. Looking forward to The Grinder and Conduit 2 along with Zelda, Xenoblade, and The Last Story. Might pick up Mario Sports Mix if it's cheap as I'm iffy about Square-Enix on the Wii. They've been a big disappointment this generation overall
Zelda, Conduit 2, and The Grinder are the only games I want from the list.
i love my wii, but if all of these titels above are "the most anticipated" lol, than good night. By the way, when you list so much not localized games like Xenoblande please put Tales of Graces also in your list and cut list down to the "10 Most anticipated Games 2011 on wii" because many of the above mentioned titels are just antic.

Zelda, The Last Story, Xenoblade, Conduit 2 and Grinder for me!
The list is so good & it's got something for everyone it seams, But for JRPG & other Japan releases U say that it's not clear wither there will be western release or no ?
That will weaken it a bit
We want Xenoblade , fatal frame & the others
better than x360
YES! The Last Story!
I am totally surprised about that list in a positive way. if i thougt about 2011 I mentioned 4 games but this game has great games beside zelda. And everyone knows there will be more games like maybe pikmin, mario, a new donkey kong, just dance, a new wii sports, resident evil, starfox and pokemon.
@Juma009,
No, I also want it to make its appearence in the west... This is a good list, 3ds is all over the place so I guess Nintendo doesnt want to mix things (New wii games + 3ds fuzz), I bet we are going to get some nice surprises for the wii...
AHHH RHYTHM HEAVEN
Am I the only fool that actually wants Inazuma eleven: Strikers released?
Last story FTW.
I agree with Kingofwale, the lineup is really weak, and most of those titles are unannouncedn unlike the ones for PSP.
4 out of 20 games... 2011 isnt looking great for any console so far
About as shallow as I expected it to be. Man I really hope some Wii games are announced soon, things aren't looking to good for 2011 so far. Reggie's recent comments give me some hope though, wonder if E3 will have any big announcements for the Wii.
almost as weak as the PSP selection.
Zelda might be the only redeeming title
Night of the Sacrifice looks fucked up lol, it better not be a dumb ass budget horror game
I really wouldnt be surprised if Lego PotC turned out to be a total myth, seeing as the two franchises are owned by Warner Brothers and Disney, not really a pair of companies that are likely to form an alliance.
Lego Lord of the Rings sounds more plausible, be dont think there have even been any rumours to do with that.
I think I'll only be getting Xenoblade and The Last Story on the Wii this year. That is if they ever get released here.
Maybe Zelda but the art style really turned me off.
