Americas Preorders Chart, 15th May 2010 - News

by VGChartz Staff , posted on 18 May 2010 / 9,647 Views

In the last week of pre-orders before launch, Red Dead Redemption added more than 110,000 units taking the total to over 450,000 units across Xbox360 and PS3. With strong review scores and a strong launch also expected in Europe, week one sales should come in at well over one million units (we're currently estimating about 1.2 million units worldwide). Keep checking VGChartz as we will report preliminary day one sales before the end of the week.

Alan Wake couldn't quite hit 100,000 pre-orders before launch, the long-anticipated title added nearly 20,000 pre-orders this week and week one sales should be around 150,000 units - a solid start but maybe less than many expected. Super Mario Galaxy 2 continues to look strong - week one sales of well over 800,000 units in the Americas looks very likely on current pre-order levels.

Very disappointed for Alan Wake, I've been waiting this game for years, I hope the reviews are good (didn't checked them)

Biggest games in this list : MG2, RDR and HR.
MG2 reached 25% of the userbase at its peak, it could sell as much as 18-22M lifetime with this ratio. My guess is at very least 11-12M.

I bought both games and didn't pre-order either of them. For Alan Wake I was not in any fear of there being a shortage as I didn't think this style of game would resinate with a huge percentage of the gaming population so I didn't pre-order it. For RDR I just spontaneously bought it at the same time. Turns out RDR is not selling out and there is plenty of stock. If I was to pre-order one of the two it would have been RDR in any event so maybe the re-order numbers are a result of a similar thought process as mine.

I'm not worried about MNR. Pretty that like LBP, it'll have great legs. Not sure I can say the same about Alan Wake, but we'll see.

Modnation Racers will probably have amazing legs (look at little big planet and big titles on the Wii), because a big part of the sales from "casual" gamers. And they don't pre-order much.

Halo: Reach is going to dominate pre-orders when it comes out. Currently number 3, and the only games above it will be released in a couple weeks. I don't think any game will surpass Halo pre-oders in North America after that.

RDR FTW.

AW...Ouch...time will tell how that pans out, but ouch!

fastyxx (on 18 May 2010)

Reach ought to clear a million pre-orders pretty easily, no? Needs to average about 45k a week, and you figure the last three or four weeks will be double that with no problem, based on the likes of Red Dead and SMG 2 numbers. Red Dead is ending up to launch bigger than I thought, especially with the extremely positive reviews. That could be bad news for Alan Wake/Mod Nation numbers in terms of non-preordered sales first week.

Ouch @ Alan Wake + ModNation Racers

Good for R* !

RDR is going to be huge !

kain_kusanagi (on 18 May 2010)

Wow, Halo: Reach is a preorder beast. And with so many weeks to go too. It's going to be the sales king this holiday season for sure.

  • 0
Tridrakious (on 18 May 2010)

ModNation isn't doing very well.

Only an increase of 7800? With 2 weeks left.

Tanstalas (on 18 May 2010)

@tingyu - RDR was scheduled to be released many times and was kept being pushed back, I believe it was supposed to come out last month but was again pushed back until May 18th, I think Remedy chose that date as there were no big releases that day, then R decided on May 18th...

If I was CEO of Remedy I woulda gone to the CEO of R
and given him a nut shot

I think Reach will open bigger than MW2 did on 360. But I don't think it will have the LTD legs on a worldwide basis. Still could be 360's top selling game of the gen in America's I think.

Alan Wake is going to underperfom on opening week, but I think it will gain word of mouth momentum to carry it forward to achieve decent sales.

I hope MNR has good legs 'cause its opening week isn't going to be all that good, for a much touted exclusive. It's a 2010 buy for me, but not a May or June buy.

Also as soon as they give Gran Turismo 5 a release date, its gonna grow. It should be right next to Halo on the list.

Probably gonna get PoP: TFS.

  • 0
huaxiong90 (on 18 May 2010)

Microsoft said they'd advertise Alan Wake well....Tbh, these pre-orders are very weak.

Impressive for SMG2 and RDR, though.

Fallout: New Vegas PS3 charts!

Little Big Planet 2 needs to get on the list fast.

  • 0
hmduong (on 18 May 2010)

I'm surprised Black Ops didn't make the list, it will definitely be on next week since there will be at least 7 new entries.

sabby_e17 (on 18 May 2010)

Ma, Red Dead should have much higher pre-orders. It's going to be a great game.

  • 0
Slimebeast (on 18 May 2010)

I believe RDR will be almost 2 million ww. Lots of decisions to buy the game are based on the incredible reviews and buzz among gamers. These people haven't had time to pre-order.

Alan Wake I believe +250K first week in America. Again, for some reason it wasn't pre-ordered like other games are.

Mod nation low really seems to be doing better than both of the other multi-platform racers coming out this month.

  • 0

Red dead is looking good.
Alan wake numbers are pretty low.
*mod nation low as well.

  • 0
aragod (on 18 May 2010)

Both Red Dead and Alan Wake have pretty weak preorders. Modnations even worse. What's causing such a low SW and HW sales now?

  • 0
blue7x7 (on 18 May 2010)

Well I guess everyone is buying RDR instead of alan wake. They shouldn't have released it in such a month where there are so many great games coming out.

Plus Microsoft really needs to advertise this game there has virtually been no advertising at all for Alan Wake.

Modnation racers doesn't seem like it will do good either even with the advertising campaign it has going on right now. RDR seems to be taking sales away from both AW and MR.

GreenW (on 18 May 2010)

RDR ~ 1.1M FW WW
AW ~ 230k FW WW
POP ~ 110k FW WW

  • 0
Nintendogamer (on 18 May 2010)

@haxxiy, it's obviously going to increase towards the release date and only a few trailers and gamplay is needed for people to get hyped.

  • 0
tingyu (on 18 May 2010)

Its its fault to come out on the same day as Red Dead Redemption, I mean you develop the game for 5 years, cant you put the game out when there are no other big release?

  • 0
Winters (on 18 May 2010)

Nearly 70k for GT5, it will be interesting to see if the number of pre-orders will go through the roof if they announce a <(final)> release date during E3 along with some new mind boggling footage.

"not to strange really, ps3 has been outselling 360 in hardware and software for a while now. It was only a matter of time until they started selling more copies of annual titles like madden. thats how it will be for the rest of this gen."

A) The 360 is outselling the PS3 in America, and these are the america pre order charts. B) 360 still has a lead of over 9.2 million in america, C) come launch Madden PS3 ect won't sell close to 360.

  • 0
gustave154 (on 18 May 2010)

modnation racers doesn't seem too good...
i hope it has legs...

@haxxiy
it got 16 weeks lol 300k seems achievable. worldwide at least xD

  • 0
haxxiy (on 18 May 2010)

Less than expected for Alan Wake, good for RDR. Reviews should help it have long legs. SMG2 and Halo Reach are going to be beasts.

PS. @ nintendogamer - 1k per week is steady? 300k launch? Yeah, right.

  • 0
scottie (on 18 May 2010)

@ Godofwar - MNR is only dissapointing cos you guys overhyped it as you always do. Those are some very good numbers that I'm sure the developers are happy

  • 0

@tensen1212 360 will have more preorders once the release date is near.

just like HALO REACH was under GT5 but went up after the release date was announced
