DiRT 3 Confirmed

You might think it's the turn of the Race Driver franchise next, what with DiRT 2 releasing only last year, and GRID the year before that, right? Maybe not, if the words of Codemasters' Vice President Gavin Chesire are anything to go by. Speaking in an interview published in the latest edition of Edge Magazine, Gavin Chesire directly refers to DiRT 3.

Here's the relevant section:

"Really, it’s all about letting the teams just innovate. There’s some great stuff coming from Birmingham that’s going into DiRT 3". He continued: "There’s an overwhelming arcing vision to all of our racing titles, and GRID is incredibly strong, but we’re lucky enough to be in a position where we’ve got racing games in different areas. DiRT was a complete reboot – we threw away what was going on and redid it completely – and then we rebooted GRID because it wasn’t top gun, and then we rebooted DiRT 2. I’m not saying we’re throwing all the codebase away, but we’re throwing the thoughts away and coming out with something fresh and new. Because if you don’t innovate, you’re dead.”

Great news for DiRT fans then, but Race Driver franchise fans could be forgiven for feeling slightly disheartened to hear mention of DiRT 3 already, but no word on the prospects of GRID 2.

Also, they will hold off making GRID 2 official for a month or two as they just released the extra DLC for GRID on PS3, who would buy that if they know GRID 2 is only round the corner?

DiRT 2 was superb but I still like GRID much much more specially online, I played that game for months at a time. And also, GRID 2 has already been "announced" on Codemasters GRID forum by two of the admins/community managers there, there's even a thread there for people to post ideas what they want added to GRID 2.

Didn't like Grid, Dirt 2 was awesome though and looked beautiful.

DIRT 2 sold more than GRID over the same period, nevertheless why not push on a big success brand as GRID ?Too much competition in the road racing now ?

DiRT 2 is just mind blowing on PC, how can they make it any better?!

Cool, Dirt 2 was awesome on PS3. Maybe they'll get it right on Wii this time, or include split-screen on the PS3. That was my biggest disappointment with the game. My brother would have loved to play with me.
