Darksiders Ships 1.2 Million, THQ Working on Sequel

by VGChartz Staff, posted on 03 February 2010 / 2,251 Views

New IPs have met with mixed success this generation, some have been outstanding sellers, like Assassin's Creed, and some have fared more modestly. THQ is very happy with the reception of Darksiders, claiming that the action-adventure has shipped 1.2 million in its first four weeks in the market.

This new franchise won't die here, as THQ is planning a sequel for it, to be released during the fiscal year 2012, which runs from April 2011 to March 2012.

The CEO Brian Farrell also talked about the economic situation of the company, which is meeting their goals and growing

"We are pleased to report solid profitability in the third quarter and we are on track to achieve all of our fiscal 2010 financial targets that we announced at the beginning of the fiscal year," he said. "This marks a significant turnaround for THQ in just one year and underscores the success of our focused strategy and reduced cost structure."

"In addition to meeting our financial targets, we launched two new franchises, UFC and Darksiders, and significantly strengthened our balance sheet. We also secured new long-term license agreements and continued to migrate our brands to digital platforms in order to drive THQ's growth over the next several years."

It feels like Zelda when you run around finding money but instead of rupies it is now souls you run around and collect :-=

@heruamon Rental? Absolutely not. First of all, the game is big. Over 20 hours, and believe me, if you try to run through it in 2-3 tries, you'll be exhausted and you'll ruin the experience. The game needs its time.

Can't wait to play this after my cousin beats it.

Is this game a buy or a rental?

That's a freakin' HUGE sword. Is he compensating for something do you think? Anyway, good news, and somewhat contrary to a different discussion on this site.

I can tell you Joe Mad - art director and cofounder of Vigil Games - had started work on Darksiders 2 before the original even shipped. He told me when I interviewed him for Wizard issue #221.

The game is pretty good. I played it for 2 hours at my brothers house and I gotta say that the graphics+artstyle are really beautiful and the missions are fun so far. Can't wait until my 360 comes back from MS

Great improvement over the Nintendo 64 era for THQ :P

This game looks interesting but I dont have enough time to play it with my backlog and wishlist coming in Q1/Q2 for the PS3.....tough times.

Apparently, THQ can't decide if they were happy or disappointed with the game's sales.

Yep... that analyst was full of BS... DS is a success no matter how you put it. Its a new IP in a now crowded genre ( DMC, Bayonetta, DI, GoW etc.) and it still managed to do great numbers ;-) Congrats THQ for both Darksiders and the turnaround :-)

That disproves the thread I read earlier. Sounds good to me. I still need to get the first one before even thinking of sequels. >_<
