Nintendo Will Not Release Content on PC - News

Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima revealed in a meeting with shareholders the company would not be releasing content on Windows PC.
Microsoft with its Xbox Play Anywhere program has been releasing Xbox games on Windows 10 PCs. Even Sony now has a streaming games service running on Windows PC.
"We are aware that many consumers play PC games," said Kimishima. "However, we believe that the integrated hardware-software business is the best way for us to provide the surprises and new gameplay experiences that we want to achieve.
"On the other hand, we offered three applications for smart devices during the previous fiscal year, and, though the content and consumers playing the applications were different, each one was received extremely favorably. Super Mario Run, for example, achieved 150 million downloads worldwide, and consumers who had never played our games before were able to experience our IP on their smart devices.
"We believe that we can further expand our core integrated hardware-software business by providing our software on smart devices and increasing the number of consumers who experience our IP."

Do they even need PC? Seems like mobile and Switch is the best combo for them. Only potential idea I see for PC is releasing the old games for a decent price.
Releasing old games on PC would probably be relatively big. I know I'd pay for that.
Depends on the price. I'd love to buy some VC titles on PC, just not at £50 a pop.
It'd probably be 2.99-8.99 depending on the game. N64 games usually hit 7-9 dollars, while gameboy games range anywhere from three to seven
For an all digital rom, that still seems awfully high for a single game from 20 years ago.
I'm going off eshop prices. Chances are it'd be that much.
Why release old games on PC when they can make something like the NES Classic or SNES Mini?
@Azuren: PC games keep selling, mini consoles on the other hand are available for a really short time. Also, as interesting as the mini consoles are, they're pretty impractical in the long run. How many consoles do you think most consumers have attached to their TV constantly? How often do you think they're willing to swap the attached consoles?
Well yeah it makes sense, gives people a reason to buy your hardware.
Good. Gotta keep some things exclusive to them. It still won't stop folks from emulating, but...ya know!
I'm so shocked.
Of course Nintendo isn't going to release any games on PC. They already have the perfect production pipeline. That's why Nintendo games always come out 100% finished on release. They don't have to spend valuable development time trying to get their game looking as good as it can on multiple platforms.
As a PC enthusiast this is pretty much why the Nintendo consoles have been the must owns for my situation of each gen... I can see why they'd to keep their games on their hardware.
Aye. I'm of mixed feelings on it; a part of me would love to just have access to the games with or without Nintendo Hardware, but on the other side there's no chance they'd continue to make hardware without exclusives, and among the consoles they uniquely offer hardware that is fun and endearing in its own right. I think it's a worthwhile sacrifice to make so that Nintendo may remain in the console market.
People on PC who want to play Nintendo games will just use emulators like they have been doing for years.
Breath of the Wild on PC would SLAY!
Looks like Gen 9 will be Sony vs(?) Nintendo, then, since they both still believe in consoles. That said, I believe that Gen 9 will be significantly more harmonious if both contenders are playing on different fields.
So... no chance for Federation Force PC?

If Nintendo had their own PC client, like EA or Ubisoft, then I would not have of purchase a Switch. I am sure Nintendo is doing what they believe will maximize their profit.
Why do the work themselves?
It's about control. Nintendo prefers to have as much control over their products as possible. With Windows, Nintendo can't tell Microsoft how to create their operating system. They can't tell Dell of HP how to make the hardware. They had to sacrifice some control to make their mobile games, but the games they made on mobile devices were made specifically for that and wouldn't appeal to the PC market.
Oh well. I suposse emulation ,fan games and mods based of nintendo franchises will fill that void on PC
It's a good thing Nintendo has some back bone unlike Microsoft and Sony (to some extent). But I guess I can't really say anything for Nintendo since more and more of their IPs are going mobile....
Mobile is more like ads that pay for itself. FE heroes is a MASSIVE sucess.
I would love to agree with you however exclusives isnt good for the consumer. You basically want to fork out more money for no real reason.
Maybe your right on that point. However exclusives force consumers to purchase more hardware. In 2017 for a gamer to experience the best of everything, they need to purchase 4 different platforms. Where as for movies, only 1 DvD/Blu-Ray drive.
We live in an age where 1 box does all. Sure that Box can have exclusive features however locking there software down? Gamers will miss out unfortunately.

@CGI - If you prefer to own multiple boxes and fork out more money nice to hear. However owning 1 box that does all is the way to go for the consumer. Having 4 plastic boxes under your TV isn't convenient for anybody. Plus times change. Live and PSNow are the future of gaming. Well we will agree to disagree.
@Azuren - You like owning more than one console to play games? Good for you. Id prefer to have 1 system to play everything.
