Dark Souls Franchise Hits 8 Million Sold - News

by William D'Angelo , posted on 30 June 2015 / 3,799 Views

Developer From Software has announced that its Dark Souls franchise has sold more than eight million units worldwide.

The figure includes sales from the original Dark Souls and Dark Souls II, as well as the remastered Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin. Figures for Demon's Souls and Bloodborne, which are considered spiritually linked to the series, are not included in this total.

The next game in the franchise, Dark Souls 3, will be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2016.

Namco should really thank PlayStation for those sales since that's the majority platform for these games.

Sony should be thankful for getting the games. The Playstation brand is weak without 3rd parties.

Someone obviously forgot that the D* Souls games started as a PS3 exclusive. You guys just have to be glad that Yoshida messed up badly with Demon's Souls. But at least he recovered bringing Bloodborne to the PS4.

Not big majority. 3.25 million sold on PC. Unknown Xbox sales. How much is PS part?

Actually, according to Vgchartz numbers PlayStation doesn't have majority sales.

I'm happy to see that there are still plenty of gamers playing the "real stuff"!

Playing though Demons Souls and "FREAKING LOVING IT". My only issue is they really don't give you enough info at the beginning. Like casting spells, light and Dark worlds, Leveling up characters attributes ect....still the game is sick and punishment to the extreme.....dying dying dying dying and then you beat the boss "IN YO FACE!"

For me, probably the only good thing to come out of the extremely terrible 7th generation. Such wonderful games that I hope stick around for the rest of my life

i think this proves that dark souls become more than just a "niche" game...
a relatively new series with two games and 8 million in sales!
dark souls ( and also demon's souls and bloodborne) is no longer just a "niche" game! "Souls games" now are, undoubtedly, some of the best games coming from japan quality wise and salewise!
Congratulations FromSoftware
