The games industry in India is expected to see huge growth in 2012, according to MCVUK. The video game industry as whole is expected to grow to $359 million in 2012, up 38 percent compared to the previous year. It also expected to grow several times over by 2016 to $917 million.

In 2011, consoles gaming accounted for 55 percent of the market, however only made it into two percent of households, compared to 13 percent globally. PC gaming is harder to track due to the high piracy rates, however it is expected to grow from $8 million in 2011 to $17 million in 2016. Mobile gaming grew by 55 percent in 2011, to $86 million and is expected to grow to $340 by 2016.

I hope for some Indian gaming companies to grow and expand into big companies, like some Chinese and Korean companies have. That'll bring more variety to my gaming catalog, and that is always good.

That is bad news for gamers. It's a sign of the business people "winning" over the creative forces (game creators, designers, etc.). Moving the jobs from the west to india will not make games cheaper, it will just leave room for higher executive bonuses. In the end it will threaten innovation and game quality.

  • Expect higher bonuses for Activision and EA executives.

Well not necessarily, look at the film industry. The big films in India are all from Bollywood and I would expect a similar dominance for locally produced content. Don't worry EA will keep producing the only things that western audiences can possibly digest, modern military FPSs!

That's great news for the gaming industry. Game budgets are getting bigger by the year and if the industry wants to carry on making big budget games without charging us a fortune, they need to expand into the emerging economies markets.

the problem is selling the games, India is an insane conservative country and they do not allow kissing or sex in their movies

people freak out on those things, I am pretty sure even Teen rated games would not be released. I know in Brazil counter strike is banned(lol)Everqu

LOL my girlfriend is from India and I have been there

think about Brazil's gaming industry and LOWER it 10000 notches

either you are very very very wealthy or you are freaking so poor that you might be a hobo because you live in the streets. The other thing is that they have some serious moralfags that will stop all M rated games since they cant even kiss or have sex in their movies

You clearly don't deserve a girlfriend from India.
