Earning Money
One quick way to earn money is via writing books. You will first need a PC and a Sim, preferably with the traits Bookworm, Artistic and Perfectionist. Click on the PC and write small books, like sci-fi ones; make sure you don't write more than 4 of the same type. After 25 books have been written, you'll be able to write a masterpiece, which is worth 10,000-20,000. Write 5 masterpieces and you'll get the milestone, "Specialized Author," which is unlocked when you write 5 of the same genre (hence the limit of 4 before). This will allow you to write masterpieces much faster, meaning you'll earn a lot more money. When you get the "Acclaimed Author" lifetime reward, you will get even more royalties.
