The install base was around 30 million when it was released and it is only around 35 million now. For GTA4 to outsell it, it would have had to have over a 50% attach rate. No non-bundled game has, or ever will ever achieve that. San Andreas sold 17 million on PS2, but has an attach rate of only 6%. It has also been selling for 4 years and had the advantage of being with the highest selling console in history. GTA4 sold over 10 million on 35 million consoles - an attach rate of around 30%. That rate is more then any non-bundled game full priced game in history. It is almost impossible to get better then that. If this game was released on an install base the size of the PS2's it would have crushed the sales of San Andreas. As for the quality of San Andreas - It was highly recieved by reviewers as well, but it had more then it's fair share of complaints from fans about all the useless girlfriend, training, huge open areas, weak storyline, being way too big and plain and more. In reality, there is a lot of room for improvement. It was NOT perfect. 4) VERY small game libraries by comparison for 360 and the PS3 especially. This means less competition for gamers' money. 5) Releasing in April when hardly many other big-name games were coming out. HUGE advantage for GTA IV. 6) San Andreas was merely another GTA game running on the GTA III engine. Conversely, GTA IV was a quantum leap in graphics with euphoria and so on, being based on a NEW, VASTLY superior RAGE engine. 7) Can someone remind me how much it cost to develop this game? I think I about died the first time I heard the figure. Oh, and look up the cost to develop SA while you're at it. Enough said. The install base was around 30 million when it was released and it is only around 35 million now. For GTA4 to outsell it, it would have had to have over a 50% attach rate. No non-bundled game has, or ever will ever achieve that. San Andreas sold 17 million on PS2, but has an attach rate of only 6%. It has also been selling for 4 years and had the advantage of being with the highest selling console in history. GTA4 sold over 10 million on 35 million consoles - an attach rate of around 30%. That rate is more then any non-bundled game full priced game in history. It is almost impossible to get better then that. If this game was released on an install base the size of the PS2's it would have crushed the sales of San Andreas. As for the quality of San Andreas - It was highly recieved by reviewers as well, but it had more then it's fair share of complaints from fans about all the useless girlfriend, training, huge open areas, weak storyline, being way too big and plain and more. I think I about died the first time I heard the figure. Oh, and look up the cost to develop SA while you're at it. Enough said.
