Hollow Knight: Silksong Devs Say it is 'Unfortunate' Launch Forced Other Games to Move - News

Developer Team Cherry's Ari Gibson in an interview with Bloomberg said it was "unfortunate" the release of Hollow Knight: Silksong forced other games to move their release date.

The release date for the hit indie game was announced just two weeks before it officially launched on September 4.

"To some extent that probably is unfortunate," said Gibson. "Even we felt like we didn’t have a lot of control over our own date because we basically were rushing, rushing, rushing toward the end, working right up until the last point. And then the minute we thought this was ready to release, suddenly we’re releasing it. So it wasn’t a particularly controlled release.

"We didn’t even know the date until basically a week or two before we put out the trailer. It’s just the snowball, and also the expectations of fans. These people have been waiting five, six years to play the thing."

The release of Hollow Knight: Silksong even caused Steam to crash.

"That was surprising," said Team Cherry's William Pellen. "I didn’t even know that could happen. But yeah, we’re really, really happy with people’s reactions to it."

Hollow Knight: Silksong is available for the e Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC via SteamGOG, and Humble Store, and Xbox Game Pass.

It crashed Steam but it wasn't even in the top 10 of the biggest release. Yeah... sure.

I wonder if they had a later date but didn't want it overshadowed by gta6

I mean, what could they have done, not release it? It didn't last that long tho, delaying other small games for like 2 weeks was more than enough.

They could have not announced the release date was in 2 weeks but 2 months, giving other devs notice or time, the words here act like they were rushed to meet a release date deadline that didn't exist. Of course it's entirely up to other devs to change their release dates.
