9th gen should catch up as I expect this gen to be longer
Only for the PS5. XBS consoles sales are so poor now that it will have a shorter life than 8'th gen Xbox one
Could've caught up already.
PS5 Slim should've had a $100 price drop when launched. That would've done it, and sooner than now.
If they would've then priced PS5 Pro at least $100 less, if not $200, they would've started creating a nice gap.
XBSS is only going to really help move the needle next holiday with GTAVI. With a price reduction or bundle, maybe both, it could potentially move some serious units.
7 downvotes? What did I say (above) that caused that?
You seriously think PS5 Slim and Pro were priced well? You think if they doably were cheaper they wouldn't have sold more faster? You think XBSS couldn't get a big sales bump from a GTAVI bundle or price drop?
I'm not a fan of the hostile voting system on this site, it's very toxic and turns discussion into a popularity contest. That being said...+2 from me. :) Hopefully you'll get out of the hole.
Ya sometimes members can get dumped on pretty hard, though not often does it seem to be a pile on just because, yet that totally does happen.
I just didn't understand what it was I said that was seen as so wrong. Unless they all misinterpreted it, but I also don't see what would be unclear.
The fact nobody else has chimed in about why the disagreement makes it even more of a head scratcher.
Appreciate the like. At least somebody got the point I was making.
it'll be interesting to see how long next gen (i.e. PS6 gen) will last since (i) there'll likely not be much need for a new system for a long while (on the basis of graphics alone), and (ii) dev times will have exploded to a point of making it unrealistic to create entire libraries for a system within such a short span of time.
Prolly would be in Sony's best interest if they started doing smth like Apple, where they stick to incremental upgrades every 3y, referring to each new system as smth like PS6v2 (so as to emphasize how all systems inherit libraries from previous iterations the system, but with better QoL features and or graphics).
I think it would be a bit complicated... It would require making games compatible with too many previous systems, which would be a mess for the games that wouldn't be compatible (watch out for games compatible from the PlayStation 2028 onwards?). We would be going back to a classic system for players... might as well go for a PC. In my opinion, what they should do is stop the race for power, stick to longer cycles or go for a PS Vita 2 + PC combo.
yeah i have not a clue what Sony should do lol. They gotta come up with smth tho. It's hard enough to see much reason for PS6's existence. I have no idea how they could justify PS7 and PS8 unless it's at least 10y wait between each system (and if they have an economical option...selling the base model system at >$1,000 is not a winning battle if you want to see the industry survive.)
Correction: When GTA6 hits PS5 + XBSX, then we’ll see these suckers really move!
(i dont like it when ppl dont acknowledge that XBSX will also greatly benefit from GTA6 lol.)
XBS consoles sales have nosedived though. Not featuring on US top 100 on Amazon. It's too late for it now. The people have already decided they don't want it
tbf that Amazon stat came when XBSX was short in supply a few weeks ago. Once supply came in, I believe the system shot straight into the top 50...though I could have some details off. You aren't wrong in saying Microsoft isn't moving units, though I think the casual consumer -- which'll be the most attracted to GTAVI -- will be looking at economical options. (Not to mention that it is very likely Sony may not be able to keep up with demand.)
This, though more so XBSS instead of XBSX.
XBSS being the cheapest way to play GTAVI is going to matter to the remaining casual audience that hasn't moved on to this gen yet.
If MS had a GTAVI bundle or decent price drop for XBSS around the launch of GTAVI, before and/or after, maybe both, I can't believe it wouldn't move some serious units, at least compared to their past sales.
They don't even care about moving units anymore. They know there is no point in slashing the prices of their hardware and taking losses on it when it wont even matter in the end anyway. they have to leave console space; XBSs/x sold worse than xbone. Xbone sold worse than xbox 360. it's not sustainable.
Then why are there still sales on XBS hardware at times?
Why is MS bothering with next gen hardware?
Why are they wasting R and D on a handheld (hybrid)?
I personally think that if MS wants to continue with XB hardware in any similar fashion, that they need to drop the power narrative and focus on the casuals.
Which would mean something like a next gen XBSS2 (which would be around XBSX performance) and possibly a handheld as well (XB1X/XBSS performance).
Maybe they even drop console and just do a handheld hybrid and that's it.
Forget it! Leave them. Let them think what they want. For many people anything else than Playstation is evil! Some still think GTAVI is PS5 exclusive!
I think it'll have more impact with the unannouced Switch 2 port than Xbox.
In fact I think the Switch 2 version will sell gang busters.
Why am i downvoted? Guess some people can't take the truth here.
