Publisher Nintendo and developer Monolith Soft have announced Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition for the Nintendo Switch. It will launch on March 20, 2025 for $59.99.

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is a remaster of 2015 Wii U game, Xenoblade Chronicles X, with enhanced visuals, added story elements, and more.

Read details on the game below:

The year is 2054. Humans have fled Earth amid a destructive intergalactic war. As one of the survivors and a member of the New Los Angeles (NLA) colony, it’s your mission to help build a new home on the sprawling, hostile planet of Mira. Explore this seamless open world across five otherworldly continents teeming with unknown creatures – some of which are epic in scale – and fight for the future of humanity.

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition features your character at the center of the action in a standalone sci-fi story. Customize your avatar’s looks and class to your liking and choose from a wide variety of options in a comprehensive battle system that’s as deep as you want it to be. Once you have proven yourself to the BLADE organization, you can also unlock a powerful Skell: Your giant, customizable mech that’s proficient in exploration and combat to assist you in your adventures across Mira.

While you go about the reconstruction effort, you’ll get to know the people of NLA, help them with their problems, and build affinity with your party members to unlock quests that contain rare gear and other rewards to earn. Plus, join an online squad* and take on multiplayer-specific missions, including extra-challenging Global Nemesis Battles! You can even recruit the avatars of other players to your team in the main story.

There is even more to discover in this definitive version of the game. Just who is the mysterious hooded figure on the beach? You’ll have to stay tuned to learn more…

I've been looking forward to this since Switch launched in 2017 and the enhanced ports and remasters started coming over. Xenobalde Chronicles X is my favourite Xenoblade game, and my favourite Xeno-game overall since Gears.

I'm hoping for an enhanced version for the Switch 2 launch.

Same here. Or at least playing this version on Switch 2 will use higher settings.

Well if the Switch has another year in the tank, this is the fuel people want.

"The year is 2054"
Why are these games always set in a relatively near future? lol

Especially since the background story begins in the 2030s when they started building the exodus fleet. In the earlier canons (Xenogears and Xenosaga), the year of the exodus and end/disappearance of the earth was in the 2500s instead of the 2050s. Gives a little more breathing room to get the technology and infrastructure for interstellar space colonization off the ground! Heh.

lol that's exactly what I was thinking. I saw 2054 and I was like shouldn't that be more like 3054 haha

An old Game Theory video did like a games timeline, would be good to see and update of that. There was a time period which was oddly empty if I recall and it was like the late 3rd millennia, I think. Will have to check.

Star Ocean takes place anywhere from 400 to 800 years in the future. Elite Dangerous is 1000 years ahead.

I don't mind since it means we fingers crossed will be alive and excited to witness firsthand those events happening, the only down side with games set in the near future are those that occur during the apocalypse.

Well i guess the Switch will have 2 more years at least. I mean the Switch won't sell under 9 million this year for sure. And thats only if they horribly fail to meet their forecast this year. Even if it fell hard it would do another 4 million in 2026. And in its final year we would see another million. So 155 million at march 2027 should be the floor. But thats not the topic here. I fully expect another year or 2 of Cross gen at least...

Well. No point hanging onto the WiiU anymore, the game transition is pretty much complete.

Wish they would bring Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD over. But if they bring those for the launch of the Switch 2/whatever, I'll be a contented man indeed.

Slownenberg (on 29 October 2024)

oh that's cool. I've never played a Xenoblade game but last week I was looking into descriptions of the games more and thinking eventually I need to dive into the series, and I was wondering if they'll ever re-release X to have all the games available, and now just a few days later they announce exactly that!

Darwinianevolution (on 29 October 2024)

I was expecting this game to be announced during a Direct, but I guess they wanted to give us a surprise. Looking forward to playing it.

It looks like they were waiting for the 10th anniversary, because otherwise this should've launched in 2021-2024.

Salnax Wman1996 (on 29 October 2024)

They had previously released Switch Xenoblade games in 2017, 2020, and 2022, so 2025 makes perfect sense.

Definitely getting this. Switch just keeps getting better and better, even in its transitional years. Nintendo and Falcom are feeding me well.

Sony: "Here's Horizon Zero Dawn Remaster!"
Everyone: "Sony is creatively BANKRUPT this gen!!"
me: "Lol Sony is creatively BANKRUPT this gen!!!"

Nintendo: "Here's Xenoblade Chronicals X!"
Everyone: "LET'S DUCKING GOOOOO!!!"
me: "LET'S DUCKING GOOOOOO!!! (i realize that re-releasing a game from a system with only 14mil units shipped, which literally cannot even be played optimally anymore b/c there were patches added later one which are exclusive to the now defunct Wii U eShop, is far more nuanced than porting a game which is BC and literally has nothing that need be upgraded.)"

Online functionality for Xenoblade X is done too. Will be interesting to see how they update that.
