2.5 million is the biggest monthly gap ever between PS and Xbox since this site exist.
How long has it existed?. I saw a graph on X that showed the last time Xbox sold this poorly was 2006.
I lurked here late 2007 and joined in May 2008, so I think around 2006 , even though xbox sales may have been poor it wasn't being beaten by 2.5 million in a month by the PS3.
For those wondering the biggest lead PS4 ever had over Xbox One in a month was 2.13m December 2016. PS3's biggest lead over Xbox 360 was 1.07m September 2009.
Biggest PlayStation leads over Xbox monthly:
1: PS5 vs Xbox Series Nov 2023 - 2.51m
2: PS4 vs Xbox One Dec 2016 - 2.13m
3: PS4 vs Xbox One Nov 2016 - 1.54m
4: PS5 vs Xbox Series Dec 2022 - 1.49m
5: PS4 vs Xbox One Nov 2015 - 1.46m
We are probably at the start of an era of PlayStation's biggest domination over Xbox since the PS2 vs Xbox.
Wish we had VGChartz during PS1 and 2 eras. Would have been cool to see the dominance
December could be the most brutal month so far
Well let's hope the Xbox fire sale had some impact in December. The real problem starts now with Xbox sales easing because at MSRP the Xbox will flatline. This may be ill-advised but maybe Microsoft should mKe the sale price permanent. Otherwise the 2024 gap might be even wider.
I thought MS was having a turnaround this gen but i guess their bad moves from the XONE were so bad that it will take longer for them to recover from. I still think there is a bright future for them if they can figure out their first party output. With all the acquisitions they made, i can't see them failing.
I think some older gamers don't like Microsoft the company due to their monopolistic tendencies in the 80's and 90's. Some far right conspiracy dolts don't like Gates and don't want to line his pockets with more money increasing the stocks value. Japanese gamers in general, have stuck to Japanese produced consoles for the most part, the 360 did decent there with exclusive jrpg support. And of course losing the Xbox One/PS4 generation was devastating as gamers built up their digital libraries on Playstation. Really the only way for Microsoft to make headway in Japan would be to buy Nintendo, which would have a better than 50% chance of killing Mario.
I could easily see people watching the clip of Don Mattrick telling gamers to eat shit on always online... and than the consumer reaction which was to drive a spear through the heart of the Xbox One.... I could see that having long term ramifications. I always find it hilarious qhen people claim Sony has a monopoly when Microsoft lit its own console on fire and dumped it in a pile of dog poopoo.
MS should go ahead and make bank by selling their popular IP to Sega, Sony, and Nintendo
If they're popular, why sell them ? It doesn't make sense... And Xbox makes money for Microsoft, why should it give up?
im positive microsoft is making big bucks with the xbox division
I’ve yet to read a profitable report from Microsoft regarding the division. They ARE better on the revenue front, but Xbox has yet to make them money.
As to whether they should drop hardware? Not something I can claim for them. But the Xbox is their entry point to Game Pass, so it’s unlikely to be dropped before another gen.
True the day may well come when PC and cloud are their game pass entry points but that day is in the future.
