Peter Jackson No Longer Involved With Halo - News

by VGChartz Staff , posted on 24 July 2009 / 3,716 Views

According to a recent Q&A with Joystiq, Peter Jackson has revealed that he and his company Wingnut Interactive are no longer involved with the Halo movie or game. Many moons of speculation have passed since the news first came out that Peter Jackson was working to bring Halo to the big screens, along with a collaboration with Microsoft Game Studios on a rumoured 'Halo Chronicles' game.

Peter Jackson: Well, Microsoft has a whole strategy with the Halo property, and when the rights expired with the two studios, that sort of ended my involvement with the project. That fell apart because of internal politics at Fox and Universal. It had nothing to do with the budget or anything else. In fact, we hadn't even been greenlit at all at that point.

When asked directly whether the Halo game was still happening, Peter Jackson said, “That Halo project is no longer happening, it sort of collapsed when the movie didn't end up happening.”

However, there is still a tiny glimmer of hope that this Halo project may still come one day sans Peter Jackson. After all, Microsoft Game Studios has recently expanded with new hires and studios, so you wonder what could be happening if this was canned. IGN.com tracked down Microsoft Game Studio's Ryan Crosby who said, “We're still looking into it, and I don't think there's any news to share on it at the moment. It's one of those projects that you kind of start up and you never really nail all the details down,” and “It's being discussed.”

If you’re not too bogged down by the news, read the rest at Joystiq to find out more about upcoming would-have-been Halo movie District 9, which Peter Jackson did work on.

Peter Jackson looks kind of like that hobbit with the crooked mouth who also appears in Lost.

@madskillz

Peter actually made an appearance in all three Lord of the Rings films. In the first, he was a drunk dude on the streets of Bree. In the second, he was a soldier fighting in Helm's Deep (I think). In the third, he was on that ship and was 'sniped' by Legolas.

If district 9 does well, it might mean more support for a halo movie with neil blomkamp and peter behind the helm.

i dnt know whether to be annoyed or k with it, well at least it gives time to get more research into the halo universe but hopefully they'll stay away from people like the people who maded dragonball, get someone like j j abrahms but if they can get peter bk then i hope they can, fox and universal studios should be ashamed of thereselves.lol

I didn't think it was gonna happen. I mean, did they not think James Cameron wasn't gonna file a lawsuit? It's a jack of Alien and Aliens.

Jackson was my "proof of approval" mark for the Halo project. I think they switched the movie resources to the anime.

M$ needs to look for a deal like Blizard is getting for the WoW movie...Maybe even get a 50/50 cost sharing deal with some investors for the film.
