Dead Star Pulled from PS4 and PC 7 Months After Launch - News
by William D'Angelo , posted on 19 October 2016 / 9,151 ViewsArmature Studios will be shutting down the servers for the multiplayer spaceship combat game, Dead Star, just seven months after release on November 1. Only the tutorial will be playable after this date.
The listing for the game has been pulled from the PlayStation 4 and Steam.

"We are shutting down the game because, bluntly, the costs of operating the game now exceed its income," Armature director of operations Jack Mathews told Kotaku. "This decision was not taken lightly internally, and was extremely sad to me personally. Armature put a lot of time, love and studio resources into both the game and the community, and we are extremely grateful to our community for their support in keeping this going as long as it could."
Armature described the game as a "passion project."
Dead Star launches in April for the PlayStation 4 and Windows PC via Steam and was also a free game as part of the PlayStation Plus.
The developer launched ReCore last month on the Xbox One and Windows PC. The game had a poor launch selling just 56,733 units in its first week.

Recore wasnt expensive to make so it probably doesnt need to sell 1 million to be successful. It uses Unity Engine not Unreal 4.
It's always sad to see this happen to an online game. After the servers go down, the game ceases to exist. Will they allow private servers on it?
not really possible with the ps4 version of it at least.
Oh no! I have it, thought it was very cool from my limited time with it, and hoped to get back to it. Honestly, I'm more bummed for the devs, as it looks like they had a quality product that simply didn't make it. :(
gonna download that from my ps plus right now while it still lasts :(
That's a bit shitty... it was a psn+ title just 6 months ago and now becomes a useless tutorial listed in my ps4 library. Also the line about it's launch date towards the end of the article is in the wrong tense, it's suggesting that the game has yet to launch.
Dead Star servers getting closed down, Recore failing to sell well, i fear it could be another developer heading for closure.

At retail, presumably. And estimated, presumably. I think we're agreed that ReCore didn't light up the charts, but I don't think we can confidently say that's the exact number at retail, and missing the digital distribution component is significant for a Play Anywhere title.
buy buy money poeple spend on it.
Server still up for the next 11 days... fuck sake though that is a short warning that it will become unavailable.
