Rumor: GameStop to Stop Selling the Wii U Basic Bundle - News

by William D'Angelo , posted on 04 June 2013 / 7,913 Views

A new rumor about the Wii U has surfaced. A source has told Kotaku that GameStop will stop selling the Wii U 8gb basic bundle on June 18. All unsold Wii U basic bundles will be shipped back to distribution centers.

"Nintendo Wii U Basic Recall - Two Week Preparation On Tuesday, 6/18, all stories will need to return all new/unopened Wii U Basic (020359). .. Stores that have 10 or more in stock will receive shipping cartons from the [distribution center]. .. All other stores will need to save shipping cartons for this recall," read the source.

If this turns out to be true, it could mean one of many things. Nintendo could be pulling all basic bundles from retailers in order to make room to cut the price of the 32gb bundle. It could also mean that the basic bundle is selling really poorly at GameStop and it is just GameStop who is pulling the bundle.

My guess is they are doing away with the 2 models and just having the 32gb system in white or black.

That would be the best way to go!

Probably a price cut on the deluxe version is planned could be why they recalled the basic version, or that it just wasnt selling as much as the deluxe version

Deluxe down to 299 would be a good price. Then Nintendo would just need to start releasing their main IPs and let the 3rd party companies follow their lead.

If this goes with a price-drop, I'm all for it!

Basic should be 32GB and Pro should be like 1TB.

Flash Drives (i.e. solid state drives) are too expensive to have them be as big as 1TB.

1TB is a bit excessive for the Wii U. 250GB will be more than plenty.

@jaxxRaxor
Of course he means 1TB HDD lol

@Teigage, He never said HDD. Wii U memory is solid state also. It would need to be completely redesigned to have room for an internal HD. If he wants a 1tb HDD, then just buy any 3rd party external drive and plug it in.
lmao. some people.

No suprise here, there were already digital titles that did not fit on the basic model's storage.
