Dave Bautista Officially Cast as Kratos in Live-Action God of War TV Series - News
by William D'Angelo , posted on 20 August 2026 / 3,649 ViewsFollowing a report earlier this month, Variety has revealed Dave Bautista has officially been cast to play Kratos in the Amazon live-action God of War TV series.
Bautista is best known as a professional wrestler and his role as Drax in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He most recently finished filming a new Highlander movie, which did require him to bulk up.
Shooting for season one was put on hold after original Kratos actor Ryan Hurst was tore a bicep while doing a stunt. He has undergone surgery and is recovering. However, it can take up to a year to fully recover.
Callum Vinson has remained on to play Kratos' son Atreus. Other members of cast includes Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Ed Skrein as Baldur, Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Teresa Palmer as Sif, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Jeff Gulka as Sindri and Danny Woodburn as Brok.
Amazon has ordered two seasons for the live-action God of War TV series with both seasons being shot back-to-back. It will follow the story of the two most recent God of War games.
"Father and son Kratos and Atreus embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human," reads the logline.
A life-long and avid gamer, William D'Angelo was first introduced to VGChartz in 2007. After years of supporting the site, he was brought on in 2010 as a junior analyst, working his way up to lead analyst in 2012 and taking over the hardware estimates in 2017. He has expanded his involvement in the gaming community by producing content on his own YouTube channel and Twitch channel. You can follow the author on Bluesky.

He looks more like Marcus Fenix then Kratos, odd choice. Ill assume the Gears movie will have the actor that resembles Kratos more now..
It pretty annoying that Hollywood keeps using a few actors. I don't think this is a terrible choice, I just get tired of seeing a few people playing many rolls.
Baldur bout to get Batista Bombed.
It would be awesome if they added some wrestling moves into the script as a nod to bautista

Intrigued to see how it pans out.
....noo thx
Theres no semblance.....
I don't think they are really spoiled for choice right now, so I guess it could be worse. Some wardrobe and make up magic is needed here. But it's cool that Mimir is actually the OG actor, I didn't know that.
Hope he don’t phone this shit in.
